What should I be hoping they test for when investigating recurrent mc / secondary infertillity?

I was wondering if I could gain a little information on what I should be seeking from a gynae consultation on recurrent mc.

I have one DC, aged 3. I have had 3 mc in the last 18 months – at 7 and a half weeks in Spring 2013, at Christmas 2012 which was a mmc measuring around 7 and a half weeks on a scan, and then one in May 2013, which seemed to be around 6-7 weeks. All very early, all at roughly the same stage.

I am aware that I might not have another successful pg and I have my own personal limits where I’ll decide that it wont happen for me but I also want to try my very hardest to give it a good as shot as any and my lifestyle does reflect this (I think). I’m 35.

So bloods? Scans? I’m ignorant and terrified, and I would like to have some idea of what could or should be offered.

Hi there are blood tests to check for the common reasons for recurrent mc's such as blood clotting factors etc. not sure what else but I guess they will take a full history and do a whole raft of blood tests and see you after results to talk through what next.

Factor 5 Leiden... It's a clotting disorder that is easier treated but causes mc

Thank you very much. I know this is going to sound silly but the attitude of the gynae wards when I've been scanned with the mc has been very discouraging and I'm quite worried that they will somehow fob me off. Being prepared would help me feel a little more in control about something that I'm not really in control of.

If anyone knows of any good websites or has any tips, I would be most grateful.

Ask to be referred to the recurrent miscarriage clinic nearest to you rather than the local gynae who may not specialise in mc's. sadly many mc's cannot be explained but there are some fairly standard blood tests they do to see if any underlying issues.

Fertility friends is the site I used as it has a wealth of knowledge for people undergoing fertility issues! Takes a while to work out where on the site to get the info so do look around it.

Oh the gynae wards when scanning for mc is very different from going for mc tests. I find when having early scans etc most obs and gynae people had an attitude of " well there is nothing we can do until baby is viable" which is sadly usually true even if not helpful. And they see it all the time.
