FSH level - a bit sad :-(

The doctor called me back yesterday after blood tests and told me that my FSH level was "menopausal (75) - I am early 40's and I was holding out that I might be able to get pregnant again (have one child). Any hope out there for me?? Feel a bit sad

Are you still having periods and ovulating. I had high fsh 12 but thought as long as there was an egg each month to try. My cycles were v wonky but I researched improving egg health etc and tried naturally. Finally at 40 i got a healthy ds.

I do still have periods - they have been a bit random though....

Maybe I need to use an ovulation test to see?

Hi there. I was told recently by the nurse at the infertility clinic not to use ovulation predictor kits as they are unreliable. As you are menopausal, the results wouldn't be accurate, as i have found out. I was using them for a few months and kept getting a positive result for about a week, so i assumed i was ovulating. blood tests at the clinic to measure my progesterone levels showed that i hadn't ovulated so the OPKs were wrong. The hormone LH is picked up on an OPK, you get this LH surge when you are about to ovulate. In menopausal women however, LH remains elevated as well as FSH. I'm 38 and in early menopause, a few months ago my FSH was 20. I know how you feel, it really gets you down. I would so badly love to have another child, so broody. Thought i had a few more fertile years left, its very sad x

What erilou said; great advice chick. Sorry to hear about that Snell its desperately sad. I am in the same boat too so understand what you're going through. I'm 33, been TTC first baby for the last couple of years without success. Thinking post pill amenorrhea, thyroid etc but when FSH levels came back plus 100 I was diagnosed premature ovarian failure May 2013.

I guess it's an odds game. They say there is still a chance up to two years after your last period that you could conceivably ovulate and get pregnant but it's obviously a slim chance and gets slimmer as you progress. Don't rule out a miracle but look at other options too. DH and I are on the list for DE IVF treatment, currently waiting for a match.
