That is a really good article and David Spiegelhalter is an absolute top notch statistician - I am in the same field and he's a big, trusted name.
But just be aware the article is from 2009 and it looks like the data is from 2007.

If I had a bit more time I would almost be tempted to replicate his graphs with the latest stats (currently july 2010- june 2011)... I do love a good funnel plot me.
