Hysteroscopy - how long is the wait on the NHS?
FabiOne · 12/06/2013 20:59
Hi guys
I need to have a hysteroscopy to evaluate my womb and wondered if anyone could give me rough idea of the waiting times on the NHS? Might be able to have it privately through my work cover but its not clear yet whether my insurance will cover it. Need to have it before can start Ivf treatment and would like to know how long its going to delay things if I have to go down the NHS route.
Many thanks

It took me a 3mth wait to see NHS gynae and then probably 5-6 weeks for the hsg. Had to be right time of month also which delayed things.

It was about 8 weeks between the consultant saying she was sending me for one, and actually having it done, but I suppose it depends what their concerns are. For me it was suspected polyps so hardly an emergency.
I had previously been sent for a pelvic ultrasound to examine the cause of irregular bleeding, and it was six months from the ultrasound, through a couple of consultant appointments and then the hysteroscopy.

I went to the doctors at the end of Jan and has hysteroscopy at the beginning of May.

Hi ladies
Thanks very much for your replies. Doesn't sound like a horrendous wait which is good news!
Thank you!

Even privately it can take a little while - sorting out the GP referral to the consultant then organising the appointment at a convenient time, and then waiting for the right time of month. I seem to recall I saw the GP in late February then had the lap/hysteroscopy in mid April.
I managed to get mine covered through DH's work insurance under investigations for painful periods and unusual spotting - there were absolutely no issues.
