i want to donate my eggs.

im new to mumsnet but i would like to donate my eggs iv had a look at some fertility clinics etc but thought id look on here to see if anybody would be interested i live in central London im 5ft 7 dark brown hair hazel eyes regular body shape/size 12-14, educated, any information advise or tips would be appreciated :)

Hi. It's a wonderful thing you're offering to do for someone. I'm 36 weeks today having used donor eggs (thank you angel donor) so i just hope you can make someone's dreams come true

OP, a that is a great thing to do and wish I had seen this post a few years ago. I have one toddler now thanks to donor eggs and.applaud all donors.(especially ours).

But I would suggest that you phone a private clinic such as Care Fertility, they all have their own donor coordinator or similar and would welcome your call. It is better and fairer that these things are done and organised officially as there is a waiting list for donors usually at clinics.

Whilst I agree with you that a clinic helps to keep things organised all donors would be introduced to a clinic and some of the smaller clinics would receive a greater share of the donors.

I personally feel our donor would get a much better service at our London based clinic. I had three rounds with Care and I would honestly not touch them with a barge pole again. They were like one big money making conveyor belt with no attention to detail when the journey became more complex for us. I spotted every cycle and lost our only embryo in 5 cycles that really stood a chance.

I really am an objective person and donnot criticise without good cause, I have heard of many other ladies saying the same about some of the Care hubs.

Pocket used our clinic with her donor found through Feetilty Friends I'm sure she will vouch for what I have said, Our clinic really does look after their donors and recipients

Give Altrui a call (www.altrui.co.uk) - they're an organisation that match donors and recipients. They'll talk you through the process and what is required etc. I donated eggs through them a couple of months ago and would definitely recommend them.

carola I've looked into altrui as a recipient but I'm not sure if donors are aware but they charge £1600 just for the recipient to find a donor through them. Then we would have to pay the normal donor charges on top. £750.00 expenses plus about £6k - £7k for the basic cycle.

The world of IVF has really become such a corporate money making industry arisen from many couples misery - I just wanted to add a word of caution about Altrui and New life. It really is only for couples who can stump up another 2k on top of everything we are paying already.

To give an idea our average round has cost £9k and one was as much as £13k if we get pregnant we are also paying for all our meds which continue so it really does add up

In 2.5 years and 5 cycles my husband and I have spent £45k on IVF and no positive outcome so far :-(

It can be frustrating when the media suggest between £3-£4k for a round!!! It really is crippling and we are lucky enough to have been able to afford this to provide us choice. I know of many couples where the choice has been taken out of their hands due to lack of funds - which seems so unfair :-(

Argh Lucky - I am sorry to hear you've struggled so much, stories like yours are the main reason I wanted to donate in the first place.

Altrui were really upfront that they are expensive when I donated through them. Originally I had gone direct to a London clinic, but they messed me around, lost my forms, didn't get back to me etc and they also couldn't tell me how many couples they would share my eggs between. I had also tried a local NHS clinic, but they didn't take altruistic donors, they were the ones that pointed me to Altrui...

I preferred the Altrui way of your eggs being exclusive for one couple, giving them a better chance and Alison called me pretty much every day during the couple of weeks I was stimming which was nice as I hadn't really told many people what we were doing. I had a panic one evening about a drug dosage and she got hold of the clinic for me out of hours as well, which was really useful.

The more I've learned about infertility through this process the more unfair I've realised it is. We were so lucky to have our little girl with no problems and I just hope that everyone who is struggling now gets the result that they are hoping for.
