Anyone ever have pre genetic diagnosis and IVF?

It costs 10K, somethign we just could not finance on our own so are awauting to see if the Welsh Assembly Goverment will fund it, as No where in Wales does the procedure so it means going to London and because it crosses from Welsh NHS to English NHS it requires a different type of funding

But what I really want to know, is if anyone has had it? How did you feel about it?

Me I am worried, I am worried they won't harvest any good eggs, I am worried of the ethical implications of "screening" embryos Im all rather confused about it all

I am having this treatment at the moment, currently on stimulation drugs and expecting egg collection easter weekend.

I feel OK about it ethically as I want the best chance of a pregnancy that will carry to term. They will not tell you the gender of the embryo they put back if that's a concern? I have got a chromosome abnormality which means any affected embryos are unlikely to survive. Ive had 3 previous IVF's, two negative and one twin MMC at 8 weeks. We didnt know about my condition during those treatments. The MMC prompted us to have tests done. We got funding from our PCT.

I am petrified there won't be any good eggs. But now we know what is wrong with me, it has made it all a bit easier to deal with. The previous cycles just felt like we were blindly chucking drugs and money at an unknown problem. 4 years TTC previous to this!

sorry it's taken a while to reply, wanted to do it on a laptop rather than my phone.

I was so worried about the boy/girl issue, I am so pleased nobody tells you. We have chosen should we be lucky enough not to know till the birth, so I was worried someone would say we have implanted a male/female embryo. Thank you so much for clearing that up!

I am scared of IVF it just seems so invasive, and like you worried about egg quality but then again even out of 10 eggs one has to be a good one right?? ( I always have to remind myself to look on the positive side)

Hi really sorry for delayed response, have been in the thick of it all.

IVF is invasive. I had a pretty horrible egg collection a week ago, pain and sickness afterwards. Got a good number of eggs, but found out today that all embryos are chromosomally abnormal, so we are not able to transfer any.
We are shocked and numb. Waiting for a review appointment now. DH wants to think about next steps, but it is too soon for me. He is relieved that we have not had to go through the 2 week wait, which I can sort of understand.

Really want to drink a bottle of wine, but don't feel well enough to do that!

Just get yourself in the best physical and mental state you can be before starting treatment. And prepare for many ups and downs! There are lots of people who it does work for. Look at fertility friends website - whole section dedicated pgd.

Totally mad cocker! She is currently chasing her daddy around the house with a tennis ball. She doesn't get it that if she won't put it down, he can't throw it!

I didn't want to read and run. Iv been through IVF PGD at guys in London. It was our first go, it was funded and resulted in a happy (hopefully healthy, we decided not to get her tested) baby girl who is almost 15 months old.

I was worried about the ethics behind it. My DH has a genetic disorder. So it made it a bit easier as we don't think we have any fertility problems. But I couldn't bring a baby into the world knowing that I had probably sealed their fate. If they were affected then they could have had a juvenile version which would have meant they would have died when they were a child or the other version meant they would have died around 60. The other option was try naturally have an amniocentesis and abort but I couldn't do that either!! We're not allowed to adopt so that's out of the window so PGD was all that was left.

I can't fault guys, like I said they are the only ones we've had contact with but they were amazing. Very helpful, in the ball and punctual. We've decided to try again and were booked in for August. We're funding this one ourselves.

I agree with the previous poster, it is an emotional roller coaster. But out LG is worth it and check out fertility friends they helped me through our first cycle.
