Buserelin question

Hello wise ladies.

I am due to start my first round of IVF this month and start Buserelin on day 21 which is March 24.

One thing which has only just occurred to me is that I forgot to ask the nurse on Tuesday what happens to this month with respect to my period. Does it just come as normal? (or as normal as a wandering 30 - 38 day cycle can be) Does it not come? I have no idea...

I was so busy thinking about the injections I forgot to ask this obvious question - any info gratefully received!

You should bleed with Buserelin. I was one week late though which was worrying and that effected all of the other timings for me (retrieval etc) which was a nuisance. Apparently it's common (not that I was told this) and if you don't bleed you can be given something to make sure you do. Just to pre-warn you, you may need to be scanned as you're bleeding. Not nice for you but completely normal for the staff.

Like you, I was fixated on the injections to the extent that other info didn;t go in - don't be scared, they are really easy to actually do. I found the mixing of my many vials more problematic and time consuming.

Good luck!

Thanks Lozster. I found the dummy injection with saline not too bad - think I had managed to desensitize my fear of needles by having acupuncture.

thanks also for the heads up on the potential scan whilst bleeding. I had a day 2 scan as part of my investigation tests so have been through that slight indignity before.

I think that the most stressful part of all of this process is the uncertainty of timings and worrying about work but nothing that can be done!

Sympathise totally about the timings. My week delay on my last cycle meant that my (carefully planned) absence from work became very visible as I missed a key meeting.

Unfortunately my last cycle didn't work so I'm currently waiting for my next cycle this time without down reg. If my period doesn't arrive in the next couple of days I'll have to wait another month before I can start as the egg retrieval will (oh bitter irony!) coincide with easter when the hospital is shut. :(

I have a horrible feeling that mine will drag on if starting on day 21 is based on having a 28 day cycle as mine definitley isn't! Still, I have decided to take the approach that there is nothing that can be done to predict timings so I'll just have to roll with it. My moving holiday dates might start to make my secretary a bit suspicious but there we are!

Sorry to hear that your last cycle wasn't successful. I will cross my fingers for you that your painters turn up ASAP and you get in before Easter. This perpetual waiting game is not much fun I know.
