Short Protocol IVF

Hi Everyone,

My partner and I are currently having our third round of IVF.

Other other 2 attempts were on the long protocol, first ended up in a BFP, however when we went for the viability scan there was no heartbeat :-(, second attempt did not go very well at all, only got to put 1 embryo back and was BFN.

The clinic suggested that on this attempt, we should go for the short protocol as this would hopefully produce more mature eggs and better quality.

My partner started her injections last Monday, we went for a scan yesterday and she has 6 follicles, not as many as we were expecting, however the clinic said not to worry as it was about quality rather then quantity.

We are to have another scan on Monday, the egg collection is likely to either be on Sat 25 Feb or on the Monday. So not long to go!

I was just wondering if there was anynody out there with successful stories of the short protocol?

Look forward to hearing from you.

I'm currently on the short protocol - second attempt.

First IVF attempt was in November. They only got 12 eggs, but every single one fertilised. I'd stimulated with 200 units of Gonal F daily. Of the 12 that initially fertilised, we had 11 day 2 embryos. We got 5 through to day 5 blast. Two were top quality. I did become pregnant (briefly) but had a very early miscarriage. I'm sure this wasn't related to the IVF or the protocol. We froze the other embryo, which was a grade 4Ab/a so almost as good as you can get, but sadly we were unlucky and it didn't survive the thaw. So all in all, I'd say in terms of the number of eggs, embryos and quality we were successful I think we just got unlucky with subsequent events. We were happy enough with the short protocol to give it another go. I like the fact that I've only needed to inject drugs for 11 days and a cycle lasts the same length of time as a natural cycle.

I am scheduled for egg collection tomorrow, so I'll let you know how it goes. I've seen you on the ICSI/IVF/FET thread.
