'impressively' high prolactin levels and zero LH/FSH levels.

Hi all
Just had a docs appointment where he told me my prolactin levels were impressively high at over 2000 and that my LH and FSH were non existent! I knew the prolactin was bad but I didn't think the other 2 were going to be quite so bad :-(
He's bringing forward my app with the endocrinologist to hopefully start some treatment but this is the first time I've actually thought that without any treatment we're not going to have a family :-(

Flixy i'm sorry to hear this- it is quite gutting thinking that treatment might be necessary to fulfil your dreams. Be kind to yourself and if you feel sad then it really is ok to let yourself - sad, angry, frustrated - don't feel bad for feeling like this.
The good news is though that even though this is apparently a really specialist area (I.e. not one that many units can treat), treatment from a proper specialist can be very effective. I have personal experience - the top bloke in this area is a chap called professor Stephen franks, he has a team at st Mary's in London and they are lovely. Please do pm me if you want more details.
Keep your chin up, sending a very un-mnetty ((((hug))))

mrstired, did you see him privately or on the NHS? I am seeing Raj Rai privately for recurrent early pregnancy loss but I am wondering whether an endocrnologist is a better option really. I have got mild pcos, some thyroid issues and I am pretty sure my early MCs are caused by hormone problems!

flixy hope you've got some movement with your endocrinologist.

I had exactly the problem you described a couple of years ago and was prescribed some fantastic medication that sorted my hormones out and I was pregnant 10 weeks later. Having had DD2 and breastfed for a year I have just started back on the same medication and hoping it might work just as well.

I know I felt alot of worry when i was first diagnosed and thought maybe I'd never have any more children but I am proof that there can be babies after news like you've had.

good luck.

Thanks for the good news girls, I've got an appointment with the endo in march but still waiting on an earlier one Sad.
I'm trying not to think about the situation too much at the moment but I am getting frustrated because I'd like to start a family sooner rather than later-all I really want is a fair crack of the whip.

DH has high prolactin. He's just seen an endocrinologist. They are going to.scan his pituitary to look for a tumour noncancer but are stopping some medication he's taking. If it's not a tumour or the meds they will treat the prolactin itself. Ultimately the high prolactin is treatable. Treatment depends on cause but you should get there :)

Thanks faith. I've had the scan done and it's all clear so hopefully it'll just be a case of getting the prolactin down so that I start ovulating and can join the conception boards!

Seems strange you have to wait so long to go back if they have done the scan?! But yes, everything I've read suggests it's reversible and you'll be ttc once you're treated. In fact DH's follow up is in February so we'll be properly on the ttc waggon around the same time!

flixy102 · 26/11/2011 12:57

I had the scan about 2 years ago and am reviewed at the endo clinic every year but now because I am off the pill and TTC I'd really like to be seen sooner rather than later.

Ah that makes sense. Well we'll have to sit and wait a little longer and then we'll get our reward :)

flixy102 · 26/11/2011 15:42

Best of luck to you and your DH faith!
