Well, on the whole it does DollyPS, at least it did for me. But not everybody who has it puts on lots of weight, and VB doesn't eat very much (apparently).

There is a theory that most genetic traits that have a downside also have an upside in certain situations otherwise the trait would be bred out. For instance, people who have sickle cell anaemia are resistant to malaria. I read somewhere (Collette Harris perhaps) that the factors that make sufferers of PCOS fat and infertile in normal circumstances are very protective in times of famine. When there is very little food around women with PCOS will live longer because of their body's tendency to store fat efficiently and slow rate of burning calories, plus they will tend to be fertile at a below the weight that non-PCOS would have stopped menstruating.
