She didn't die due to the drunken mishap, she died because it wasn't investigated and dealt with properly. But whatever the cause its very sad for her family.

Her husband doesn't look as if he's sniggering at all

BigFatSepticToe · 20/05/2010 19:24

Another one here who cannot believe the callous responses on this thread.

a woman DIED,ffs, when she should not have done. If a vet misdiagnosed a pet like this you'd all be livid, if it was one of those cases where a surgical tool is left inside someone, there would be uproar, but just because it was her bottom and a loo brush, and she was hurt while drunk, its hysterical? i think not.you should be ashamed of yourelves

woman slips when drunk and gets bit of loo brush stuck in her bum = ouch! but a bit funny

woman dies because of medical negligence=NOT funny

BigFatSepticToe · 20/05/2010 19:26

KK - to answer your question, the wrong kind of xray may have been done. ones that look for broken bones are not the same as those that look for damage to soft tissue (I read this on another thread, i don't really understand how it was missed either, surely originally you would have been able to FEEL the lump under the skin?)

very sad story

grapeandlemon · 20/05/2010 19:28

I read that story with utter sympathy for that poor Woman and her family.

How she must have suffered.

I did not crack into a smile once reading that , she died and was failed abysmally by her practitioners for years.

KurriKurri · 20/05/2010 19:30

Thank you for that info. BFST, - I didn't know that. -V. sad poor woman must have been desperate for someone to help her.

GColdtimer · 20/05/2010 19:30

Am sure her children think it hilarous.

stripeyknickersspottysocks · 20/05/2010 22:04

I don't think that people were laughing but were just wondering how on earth the Drs could miss it. I am astounded that a 6" length of plastic could be missed for 2 years.

I don't think that ordinary x-rays pick up plastic, only bones and metal. So an MRI would be needed and after 2 years she did get an MRI and it was seen.

But why did the Drs not order an MRI earlier?

I think people are being far too earnest about being seen to say the right thing here.

OF COURSE it's bloody sad that somebody has died. OF COURSE her family will not be laughing about it. And it's disgraceful that she was left in pain for 2 years.

However as BFST says -
woman slips when drunk and gets bit of loo brush stuck in her bum = ouch! but a bit funny

swanandduck · 21/05/2010 14:34

PrivetDancer
This is a public forum that anyone can access. Therefore making jokes and laughing about someone's suffering and death is totally inappropriate and insensitive.

KurriKurri · 21/05/2010 15:10

PrivetDancer - why would anyone care about being 'seen' to say the right thing, no one knows who we are on here, I couldn't really care less what people think of me, I say what I feel.

You say 'of course her family will not be laughing', but you are the one that suggested they were. If that was a joke it was well disguised.

You post sounds like defensiveness, because you assumed we would all be shrieking with childish laughter at the very idea of a buttock injury, and it turned out we weren't.

PrivetDancer · 21/05/2010 15:12

I'm aware of the nature of the forum

Nobody actually made a joke about it anyway.

If she hadn't have died and it had just been a bit uncomfortable for a short while, before being promptly fixed by the medical profession, don't you think that having a bit of toilet brush stuck in your bum is a little bit funny in a slapstick kind of a way? Or do you just take everything completely seriously?

KurriKurri · 21/05/2010 15:30

Not finding it hilarious when a woman dies from an injury to her bottom = taking everything completely seriously? Rather a big leap I think.

However I have no wish to argue with you endlessly, we have differing viewpoints I'm happy to leave it at that if you are.

CinderellaRach · 21/05/2010 15:31

I don't think anyone is laughing at the woman dying just how silly it sounds and not real.
Everybody reacts to things differently. Some people even laugh at funerals.
Some people are very serious and others have dark senses of humour.

swanandduck · 21/05/2010 15:40

But the point is privet that she did die, and also suffered a lot of pain, so your comments were inappropriate.

And I don't think the sniggering remarks on here display a 'dark sense of humour'. That sounds like something deep and sophisticated, when actually this is just cheap and nasty.

PrivetDancer · 21/05/2010 15:45

I wasn't arguing with you KK, I hadn't seen your post, I was responding to swanandduck.

My point was though that finding humour in a situation is not the same thing as somebody finding it hilarious that somebody has died - that's a leap too.

PrivetDancer · 21/05/2010 15:47

exactly, cinderella!

CinderellaRach · 21/05/2010 15:54

Dark sense of humour:Grotesque or morbid humour used to express the absurdity, insensitivity, paradox and cruelty of the modern world.A dark humour uses devices often associated with tragedy and is sometimes equated with tragic farce.

You don't have to agree with people if you don't want to but nobody is being nasty about the womans death. They just happen to have a dark sense of humour and maybe you're more PC and serious.

Olihan · 21/05/2010 15:54

Sorry, where exactly is the humour in someone dying because doctors misdiagnosed her?

'woman slips when drunk and gets bit of loo brush stuck in her bum = ouch! but a bit funny' is amusing if it was just a drunken fall and the handle got stuck but was spotted and removed.

There is nothing remotely funny about an accident that has resulted in someone's death.

She's left 2 children behind. She was a mother.

Some of you should be fucking ashamed of yourselves.

swanandduck · 21/05/2010 15:56

Well, if it was addressed to me, I agree with KK. Just because I'm not making 'humorous' remarks about a woman's death, on a public forum that anyone, including her family and friends can view, does not mean I take 'everything seriously'. Just that I can empathise with her grieving family and know how upset I would be. in a similar situation. to discover a load of strangers making jokes about it.

swanandduck · 21/05/2010 15:57

ps strange how people are using the defense that anyone who finds their behaviour distasteful is 'PC and serious'.

skihorse · 21/05/2010 16:02

I have a horribly dark and oft inappropriate sense of humour but there is nothing remotely funny about this story. I think the first few comments left on this thread are disgustingly nasty.

CinderellaRach · 21/05/2010 16:02

I don't think it's strange

swanandduck · 21/05/2010 16:08

Well no, not strange, I should have said 'interesting'.

CinderellaRach · 21/05/2010 16:13

There's nothing wrong with being serious btw.

Disenchanted3 · 21/05/2010 16:14

She slipped and fell on a toilet brush - so that gives you an exxcuse to laugh? What are you? 8 years old? Laughing at something because its toilet or poo related

If she slipped in the kitchen and fell on a knife would you be laughing after it not being foun d for 2 years then dying? I think not.

Its a toilet brush... hilarious
