What saddnes, but with a touch of joy mixed in it must be for the family.

She died after her life support was removed, following the birth.

That's terribly sad. But also morally questionable - were they right to keep her alive for her baby-to-be? By withdrawing life support after baby arrived, weren't they treating her as an incubator? She wasn't having medical treatment for her own sake, but for the unborn baby's - is that the right thing to do?

Not sure if there are any right and wrong answers though.

Either she was kept alive, knowing that she'd die once the support was turned off - but the baby survives.

Or both die there and then.

Tragic all round.

looking back, if you had been in this situation when pregnant, would yu have wanted your life support switched off immediatly or would you have wanted to give your baby a chance to live?

Terribly sad, but IMO yes, totally the right thing to do. Why wouldn't it be?

Sorry, I worded that wrong - I mean that the fmaily would know she was to die afterwards.

I, persoanlly, feel that it was the best thing to do, in these circumstances. At least there is some good/happiness in this family's life now, after a tragic situation.

I think definitely the right thing to do. It's how I'd want it if it was me.

I agree - imagine if it was your DH faced with not only losing his wife (which seemed inevitable in this instance) but also losing your unborn child.

Just discovered that she also had a 2yr old boy too

I can't imagine anything else happening in a situation like this.

Edam - i would say that to let her die after the stroke, given she was already braindead, would be acceptable (? not sure what the right word there is) for her on her own, but as it would kill an otherwise healthy baby, wouldn't that be murder? They did the only thing they could have done (still strangely uncomfortable with the idea of her being an incubator though). Wonder what they'll tell the little girl when she's older?

i would want that to happen if something happened to me. If the baby is well and has good chance of survival then keep me going until the baby could be born.
