Oh that is so sad. RIP Gerry, listening to his show was always a highlight of visits home.

stleger · 30/04/2010 21:47

Late Late is doing a 'special' with Dave, Joe, Gay and Pet Kenny.

Mollycat1 · 30/04/2010 22:01

So sad, cant believe its true. I only moved to Ireland 18mths ago and from day one I listened to his show. Absolutly loved his shows, mornings are not going to be the same. Always hated when they had stand ins for his days off and counted down till he came back on air.

RIP Gerry Ryan

DecorHate · 30/04/2010 22:14

I used to listen to him when he was on
late at night - that's showing my age.... Was he never considered for the Late Late when Gaybo left? Would have been far better than the Pat Kennys etc

stleger · 30/04/2010 22:24

He did Late Late when Pat's mum died, he never seemed comfortable with telly.(Unlike Pet who is a natural chat show host). I used to hear him in places like cafes talking about bottoms and wind, like a big naughty child.

chipmonkey · 30/04/2010 22:51

He did a bit better with that "Ryan confidential" show.

I used to listen to him late at night in my bed in boarding school. he had such a gorgeous voice!

Not Irish but always listened to hime on my frequent trips over, loved it. Was over there when he interviewed Tony Hawks who was hitchiking around Ireland with a Fridge

Agree TV was his thing really. Had a face for radio we used to say!

I think with the radio show there was more intimacy with phone lines and he always came across as being totally involved with whoever was phoning in. Unlike Joe Duffy who never listens to what anyone is saying. Gerry could go off on weird tangets at times but that was Gerry.

I still can't believe it. His poor kids.

So shocked I grew up listening to Gerry I was home one Christmas after dd was born washing the dishes in the morning dd in her bouncy chair listening to Gerry and I felt like a proper Irish Mammy

RIP

stleger · 01/05/2010 14:40

I still have to check if any of the kids have leaving cert or other exams this year, that would be really hard on them.

RunawayWife · 01/05/2010 14:55

Sorry for his family.

May he make it up to heaven half hour before the devil knows his dead.

scoutliam · 01/05/2010 16:33

Jesus it's sad.
I grew up listening to him and Dave Fanning.

TheFirstLady · 01/05/2010 16:37

Oh my, he was so young. I haven't lived in Ireland for 20 years, but he was part of my growing up. So sad.

MILFintraining · 02/05/2010 12:43

It's very sad. I found out when I saw it being discussed on MagicMum. I rang my parents to tell them - they'd heard nothing.

chipmonkey · 02/05/2010 18:03

Got very upset yesterday when I turned on the radio and they were playing recordings of Gerry. Just hit me that I'd never hear him again. First time I've cried real tears for a celebrity, you really felt like you knew him.

KiddingAnxiously · 02/05/2010 18:26

I know, I think that he let you feel so close to him when he was presenting his show, he never really held back. I'll miss listening to him terribly.

Poor poor Gerry and his family.

elmofan · 02/05/2010 18:55

poor Gerry ,

stleger · 02/05/2010 21:44

To cheer you up, and in a way Gerry would like, and then to have annual bad dreams - check out the Leaving Cert song on You Tube!

Mollycat1 · 06/05/2010 18:41

Listened to his funeral mass on the radio today and it was a lovely ceremony, very fitting for him and I am sure he would be very proud of all his children and what they said about him. Such a sad loss for Ireland. Thinking of his family and friends at this sad time for them.
