BA and air traffic control seem to be in some sort of mad stand off

According to bbc news BA are insisting on landing 10-12 planes at Heathrow despite NATS/ ATC saying airspace closed.

yes I'm afraid so............. although I think they were in the first couple of days of the ban being lifted. After all, the ban was lifted before the ash cloud went away. Instead of the experts saying it was now safe to fly, the goalposts were moved and following the new tests (ie ww circling the atlantic for a couple of hours) it was decided upon a new safe level of ash in the atmosphere.
