Celebrity kids being photographed

Am the only one to feel uneasy about the amount of space given to celebrities' kids? The Daily Mail seems to feature Suri Cruise nonstop, never mind those belonging to Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Katie Price etc.

Grazia had a piece a few months ago, describing some of these toddlers as style icons. They're not. They're just babies whose parents choose their clothes and don't have the good sense to protect their offspring from the media.

Some of the things people say about these children on pop culture sites are plain cruel. When these toddlers get to the age when they can use the internet, imagine what it will be like when they discover people think they are ugly, spoilt, will end up in rehab. (see perezhilton.com)

Some parents clearly use their children to generate publicity for themselves, but I don't think the media should collude with them in this. I've never seen a picture of Kate Moss's daughter, or Nicole Kidman's. Their faces are usually pixellated in photos - which I think is spot on.

I've stopped reading celebrity publications/websites. I find it creepy to see adults fawning over children like that.

I agree. It can't be healthy for these kids to constantly face photographers. Even worse to be told they're fashion icons, when they're still walking around with comfort blankets!! Let these kids have as normal a life as poss!! And the adults who write about them should get a life.

I find it very disturbing particularly when I see pictures of Suri Cruise.

There are pictures of her online every bloody day usually looking grumpy and miserable and wearing ridiculous outfits.

It's even worse when you watch videos on some blogs and you realise how many paparazzi are actually around her taking those pictures.
I saw a film online where one of the photographers was clearly heard saying 'no flashes, she hates it' (obviously speaking from experience) and then when Tom Cruise was heard asking the paps what they were doing there, one of them's heard saying 'well, you called us!'.

I am disgusted that her parents would encourage such publicity for their kid.

Funny how I never, ever come across pics of sleb children. If you don't like it don't read the papers/magazines/website that publish this sort of crap. By buying a copy of some shite like Grazia you are actually endorsing the rubbish that they print.

SoupDragon · 07/04/2010 13:03

I think Suri is the worst example. She is everywhere. The Pitt-Jolie children don't seem to be paraded deliberately in front of the cameras in the same way.

In fact, I can't think of any other children who get quite the same amount of coverage as Suri.

Surely it's the adults and editors who have to stop salivating over the so-called fashion sense of toddlers? I teach fashion students, so reading mags like Grazia comes with the territory.

Jeff Brazier said on the recent programme about Jade Goody that he got an injunction against the press taking any more photos of his 2 boys
he said if he lets Ok etc photograph them then the injunction is immediately lifted so that is why he doesn't do any interviews with the boys

so Tom Cruise , kate Price et al can stop making money out of their kids if they wanted to

violethill · 07/04/2010 14:57

I agree with Callisto.

I have no interest in seeing pictures of sleb kiddies dressed up in ridiculous outfits being expoited by their manipulative parents.

So I don't buy this crap.

anonacfr · 07/04/2010 17:11

I find that however much I don't buy gossip magazines, pictures of celeb kids appear everywhere- fashion magazines, entertainment headlines, yahoo/google/etc pages...
Even news websites.

Hard to avoid.

SoupDragon · 07/04/2010 22:14

I don't buy "this crap" either. However, whenever I click a link on MN that goes through to the DM, there is inevitably a picture of Suri Cruise somewhere.
