How bizarre.

SPBInDisguise · 18/03/2010 11:47

is the youtube meant to be the banned one?
very funny though - "by about day 3 i usually like to go dancing"

Restrainedrabbit · 18/03/2010 11:48

No I think it is the sanitised version, but yes I like it too - v tongue in cheek

just wondering what the context would have been

TrillianAstra · 18/03/2010 12:17

Yes, what was the sentence in which they were not allowed to refer to the vagina? I mean, everyone does presumably know where tampons go, right?

Am I remembering right that it wasn't til the 90s that they first used the word 'period' in an advert?

LouIsOnAHighwayToHell · 18/03/2010 12:32

Wasn't Sarah Jessica Parker the first person to say the word 'period' on tv?

SomeGuy · 18/03/2010 13:54

I guess the networks know they can get companies to pay to advertise tampons without pissing off people who don't like the word 'vagina', so they don't need to allow it.

MorrisZapp · 19/03/2010 16:47

Haven't clicked the link but I can't think of any advert that names intimate body parts.

We all know what loo roll is for but I can't imagine we'd need to hear anus etc on an Andrex advert.

I'm happy for tampon adverts on the telly to be vague and unspecific tbh. You could be watching with your grandad. No need for vagina etc, just say 'absorbency', that covers it without causing embarrassment.

...speaks an 80's child who was mortified by the whole 'now with wings' thing.

bluecardi · 19/03/2010 21:19

Perhaps if the ad was all in swear words it would be ok lol

DuelingFanjo · 19/03/2010 21:21

I thought it was Courtney Cox who was the first person to say Period on American TV?

LouIsOnAHighwayToHell · 19/03/2010 21:34

DuellingFanjo - I stand corrected.

Here is something entertaining for you all this evening.

That's been the rule for ages now

Same as how they aren't allowed to use red liquid when they show the absorbency, it makes people think too much about periods

I believe originally you weren't even allowed to show tampons/towels on screen in an advert.
