Maybe the woman in the Mind charity shop should have taken this recourse?

Woman charged in breast milk assault on jailer

(AP) ? 23 hours ago

OWENSBORO, Ky. ? A woman in jail for public intoxication was accused of assaulting a jailer by squirting breast milk at her. WYMT-TV reported that a 31-year-old woman was arrested Thursday on a misdemeanor charge of public intoxication. But as she was changing into an inmate uniform, she squirted breast milk into the face of a female deputy who was with her.

The woman now faces a felony charge of third degree assault on a police officer. Her bond was set at $10,000.

Is this really true?

mayorquimby · 08/03/2010 14:47

link or source?
if true then she deserves an assault charge.

displayuntilbestbefore · 08/03/2010 14:49

Agree with mayorquimby, What an unpleasant woman she must be.

toastnmarmite · 08/03/2010 14:52

ew

NatalieJane · 08/03/2010 14:53

Well I think it depends, if she actually did it on purpose then fair enough, but there were loads of times when I would just start squirting milk everywhere, usually as I was getting changed, change in temp. I suppose.

That is of course if this is actually true?

I bet that this incident will be repeated as 'Those breastfeeding mothers, they're so disgusting' not 'Those public drunkards, they're so disgusting'.

No threat to the policewoman's health unless the drunk had HIV, I think, but no decent person would do such a thing.

anonacfr · 08/03/2010 16:16

I might be immature but I think this story is hilarious....

Can't believe she's being charged with assault. Isn't that a bit of an overreaction?

displayuntilbestbefore · 08/03/2010 16:30

Why is it an overreaction?
To be sprayed with anyone else's bodily secretions is assault and anything purposefully sprayed from your body onto someone else is offensive and an assault on that person.

slightlystressed · 08/03/2010 16:44

The policewomans head must have been close to her boobs. I don't think I could squirt milk more than a few inches and I would have no aim....am only BFing once a day now so havn't got enough milk to test this out.....

JackSpratt · 08/03/2010 16:46

I'm sure at best I could manage a couple of feet.

But I was never hammered enough to aim it at an unsuspecting police officer.

SpawnChorus · 08/03/2010 16:52

I can squirt milk several feet.

Agree with l39.

"To be sprayed with anyone else's bodily secretions is assault "

Hmm, I think that makes it sound worse than it really is. How about if she'd flicked cow's milk? Would it then be an overreaction to charge her with assault? I do think it's odd that human milk is deemed as "nasty" as say wee or spunk or spit.

displayuntilbestbefore · 08/03/2010 17:12

Spawn - I think it's odd to think that breast milk isn't considered as offensive as any other bodily fluid if it has been used in the way the woman in question used it, with unpleasant intent.
If something came from someone else's body and not mine, then I would't want it sprayed on me and it wouldn't matter if it was breastmilk or urine - both equally as offensive tbh!
Being sprayed with cow's milk would also be assault.

SpawnChorus · 08/03/2010 17:17

It's really not the same as any other bodily fluid. It is a food-stuff, and other bodily fluids aren't. It can't be compared to a waste product such as urine.

If the woman were being charged with squirting cow's milk at a police officer, there would be far less "urgh"ing going on, I bet.

violethill · 08/03/2010 17:18

Totally agree with displayuntilbestbefore.

It's assault. What a throughly unpleasant woman.

SpawnChorus · 08/03/2010 17:19

By the way, I'm not defending the woman, who could be a horrible drunk for all I know...just pointing out that society has some weird perceptions about human milk vs that of other species.

displayuntilbestbefore · 08/03/2010 17:24

Whether it is a foodstuff or a waste product is of no interest or relevance to someone who has just had it sprayed on them - to them it is horrid, whatever it is.
If you were hit on the head with a leek you wouldn't be less upset than if you were hit on the head with a bag. The fact is you were hit on the head. Same with this - it was something from somebody's body deliberately coming into contact with someone else's body, which is nasty.

wannaBe · 08/03/2010 17:26

if you threw any food stuff at someone it would be asalt.

The fact it's breastmilk doesn't make the experience any less unpleasant.

SpawnChorus · 08/03/2010 17:29

Well I would be immensely revolted if someone threw shit, blood, piss or spit at me. I would be mildly irritated if someone squirted milk at me, be it from a cow or a human.

SpawnChorus · 08/03/2010 17:31

And let's face it the amount of milk was probably tiny...like a few droplets.

If you went to the police claiming that someone had "assaulted" you by flicking a couple of drops of cow's milk at you, I think they might laugh.

KimiGaveUpStarbucks4Lent · 08/03/2010 17:47

Disgusting woman.
Hope she is charged with assult.
Also why was a BF woman drunk in the first place, hope SS were called in

mayorquimby · 08/03/2010 18:34

how is it an over-reaction to charge her with of assault? It comes under the definition of assault so what else could they charge her with? They're not saying it was dangerous or severe, just that it is assault. It'd be the same if she threw water at an officer or another liquid. You can't exert force on another persons body without consent.

SpawnChorus · 08/03/2010 19:25

If she'd just thrown cow's milk or a banana, or even if she'd actually SPAT at the officer this would not have made the news. Unfortunately the fact that it's breastmilk appeals to the prurient mentality a lot of people seem to have about breastfeeding.

displayuntilbestbefore · 08/03/2010 21:05

I don't agree SpawnChorus - I don't think this has got anything to do with BFing issues - despite you trying very hard to make it into a BFing issue!
The reason it made the news is, of course because it wasn't merely throwing a banana, it was something that most people would probably find pretty abhorrent - the idea that as an aggressive gesture a woman would even think to do that!
Nothing to do with people's views on actual breastfeeding, just a natural reaction to an unusual and nasty action by one very unpleasant belligerent woman.

chandellina · 08/03/2010 21:27

well at least she's doing a version of pumping and dumping rather than feeding her baby after what sounds like a big drinking session.
