About the bombs!

On Sunday (so very soon after the bombing) Former Metropolitan Police chief Sir John Stevens has said the London bombers are "almost certainly" British.

Today there was a leak from some French Minister saying that the terrorists had previously been arrested but let go in order to catch the ring leaders. This was denied by the Foreign and Home office.

The speed with which they cracked this also makes me suspicious!

I'm just astonished that Sir John made that comment as early as Sunday and of course was proved right.

I have this horrible feeling that they knew who these terrorists were and what they were going to do.

Am I making 2+2=5 or does anyone else think that it all doesn't quite add up? If I'm right then some people paid a very high price for the 'wait and see' approach

Charles Clarke has already admitted that ID cards would not have prevented this attack.

I'm sure, if it did turn out to be true, this information would not stay secret for long, despite Mr Clarke's denials. Someone would leak the information.

I prefer not to speculate at this time. If it did turn out that one of them had been arrested before then I assume there wasn't any evidence or basis to arrest and detain the man. I know people's first reaction would be to assume the police or government had messed up somehow but, I'm sure they would not have released someone they could have proved was planning such an attack.

soapbox - sorry, I was working/sleeping.

Arlington Road is a very tense thriller about a suicide bombing that wasn't, for which the police couldn't have possibly discovered the real cause. But it's a story.
