How sad that one of the biggest sports in the country can not tackle homophobia

We're in the 21st century and being gay in this massive sport is seen as taboo.

I guess whats needed is some brave footballers to come out and then tackle the problem head on.

I heard a guy from a small team being interviewed on R4 yesterday (Richmond and somewhere of iicr?) he is openly gay and says it is ok as they are a small club and most of their supporters know the players personally. However, he also said that unless the Prem starts to have players come out, it will never be properly dealt with. He also pointed to the welsh rugby guy who recently came out and said that he had been well-supported/fairly positive reaction.

Remember poor Justin Fashanau? Double-whammy for him - gay and black. No wonder he couldn't cope.
