When we were in NY it took a long time for some people to be located - due to the chaos at the time - some people were not located for a while due to wide variety of reasons and not due to anything bad happening to them - maybe they are staying at a friends - just didn't make it back home last night due to transportation issues?.....

I think 'no news is good news' might be appropriate for this - everything crossed for you and your friend
