Charing Cross is open for those heading south.

Marina · 07/07/2005 16:09

Just home after hacking down to London Bridge. Bit chaotic but that's par for the course with SE Trains! In fact the staff and police on duty are doing a great job and I am VERY grateful to have made it home with no more than a 30 minute walk.
City streets devoid of traffic apart from emergency services vehicles very creepy and sad though
Ds' school threw open After-School Club to all comers and laid on sandwiches and drinks He is quite hacked off not to be joining the party.

tamum · 07/07/2005 16:11

Oh, I'm so glad to hear you're back Marina. I do keep worrying about you all.

HandbagAddiction · 07/07/2005 16:12

is lisa lisa ok ?

aloha · 07/07/2005 16:37

Told dh that no matter how hard it rains he is to walk home.

wilfulwife · 07/07/2005 17:32

How near to centrallondon do you reckon we could drive into on the East side?My dh is in Russell sq,reckons he won't be leaving until 7-8pm as he has a responsibility to his workers to ensure they all get home safely, just wondering if i could get a bit nearer so he doesnt have to walk all the way at that time.Love to everyone who has experienced this today.

uwila · 07/07/2005 17:47

Almostanangel, Lisalisa started this thread so presumably she's ok.

Blu · 07/07/2005 17:51

Bus services running very well to the South of London - traffic is v heavy though, and llots and lots of people walking.

V pleased to see you post Aloha- was thinking of your DH.

FlounceyFlossam · 07/07/2005 17:56

Dp's brother has thus far walked from Chancery Lane to Mile End. Has not seen a bus yet and is facing an even longer walk home to BUckhurst hill if no other way. Poor thing.

Xena · 07/07/2005 18:01

My DH can't even begin to try and get home.
He works for the NAS and his car is being used as an ambulance as they are short.

soapbox · 07/07/2005 18:56

I got home very easily - managed to get a cab 200 yards from the office door, straight to London Bridge - no traffic on roads and got a train almost straight away.

Cabbie said that all London Cabs were asked to come into central London and get people out if at all possible to alleviate transport problems!

What a day - glad to be home!

Marina · 07/07/2005 19:02

Xena
But many Londoners will have cause to be thankful to him and all his colleagues today. From what I have seen in the city the emergency services have been magnificent, as usual. We are very lucky in the UK to have such a highly skilled ambulance service.

NotQuiteCockney · 07/07/2005 19:40

wilfulwife, you can certainly drive into Mile End. I'd think you could get most of the way to Whitechapel, at least.

Ta, not quite cockney,if I canlocate dh I'll do that,he just left Bloomsbury to walk eastwards, thanks.

PiccadillyCircus · 07/07/2005 20:41

I got home fine - walked from Baker Street to Finsbury Park, waited for about an hour, got train to Hatfield and then drove back here.

Took about 3.5 hours instead of the normal 1.25 hours but a lot better than I thought it might have been.

So glad to hear everyone is getting home safe and sound. Am just off to call my bro and see how he's managed the trip from Holland Park to Hackney. If he's got any sense he'll be in the pub...

Pixiefish · 07/07/2005 21:01
