Is it just me or is there a shocking lack of interest on the national TV news about what's happening up here in Central Scotland. I know that the Olympic decision is important - and I'm really glad that London won - but ffs there have been riots in the centre of one of the UK's cities, 70 people have been arrested, a major motorway has been closed by protestors and rioters have tried to blockade the centre of Edinburgh and there's been hardly more than a couple of minutes on the news about it and that's after waiting 15 minutes for the countdown to the Olympic decision (ITV's lunchtime news). Can you imagine if this happened in Woking or London or somewhere else in the Home Counties, we've never hear the end of it for months. Really pi$$es me off.

hi miam! hope you and your beautiful dds are well...

miam · 06/07/2005 19:31

Hi there! How are you? We are all fine here. Not been around much as am working pretty much full time now in between painting/HEing etc etc etc.

There goes another helicopter....

Gomez · 06/07/2005 19:33

How does that work then ja9? Is that a kind of temporary cover/supply thingy?

I only had DD2 thou' and she had two naps....

ja9 · 06/07/2005 19:37

its temp for the year...

... not ideal but better than random supply. have made it clear to them that i'll still have to be on the lookout for a permanent post.

(altho' rumour has it that something perm & part-time may come up in the school during the year...)

is your pal still there?

ja9 · 06/07/2005 19:38

dht relief is covering for the dht as she has been allocated 3 days per week for management duties this year

Gomez · 06/07/2005 19:42

Cool. I think she is but is no longer a pal - a bit of a falling out a wee while ago unfortunately. I won't bore you with the tedious details - particulary as she holds the view it was all my fault...

Hope you enjoy it.

Gomez · 06/07/2005 19:42

Oops didn't mean to make that bold sorry.

ja9 · 06/07/2005 19:53

oh dear...

ja9 · 06/07/2005 19:54

i take it from your earlier post that you havent moved house yet... urs still for sale?

Gomez · 06/07/2005 21:44

Sorry ja9 - actually left MNs for a few hours there. Our house is sold - 3rd time lucky, another boring story - we are due to move end July but will still have both houses until September ....

TwoIfBySea · 06/07/2005 22:19

It isn't just you Tabitha. I know the olympic thing is of great importance to those in London but it has completely over-run the news. Who said the news wasn't London-bias, eh?

I am thinking that if this had been happening in little southern English towns rather than little Scottish towns there would be no other news on! What is happening is shocking, truly shocking but the coverage is equally shocking.

Maybe that is why it was held up here - we are obviously held in so little regard.

TwoIfBySea · 06/07/2005 22:27

I joined this too late then. God I truly am the ultimate threadkiller

Oh and has anyone else noticed anything about the "protesters" accents? They are all similar so from a similar background...don't hear any northern accents at all.

tabitha · 06/07/2005 22:56

Not too late at all, TwoIf
I'm just glad to hear that other people think the same as me. Was begining to think I was paranoid.
Agree with you about the accents too.
Hope there isn't any more trouble but wouldn't bank on it.

AT 8am this morning 7 police vans full of police went screaming out the road past our house heading for the M9. I, much to dd1's disgust changed the tv from cartoons to the news to see what was happening exactly. We'd already heard on the radio about the riots in Stirling, but all we could get on the news was the Olympic bid!

All we got in the end was a little snippet of news headline along the lines of " oh there are riots in Stirling, and sit down protests on the way to Auchterarder" then it was straight back to the Olympic bid.

Demented · 06/07/2005 23:57

Good to see you miam (you've been very good lately, not seen you on MN for yonks ), glad that you were all tucked up safe in Dunfermline! I can't wait for all this to calm down, I could do with a trip to Edinburgh/Glasgow and I don't like being kept out of Stirling, grrrrr!

Gomez, glad you got your dinner at least the protesters didn't come between you and M&S!

Skribble · 07/07/2005 01:00

Wonder what the chances are of getting up the M9 tomorrow (Thur) heading for fife for T in the P from glasgow direction?????
