I'd quite badly like to not have Rod Liddle edit the Indie

How 'bout you?

Liberal Conspiracy (lib dem blog, but we shouldn't let that put us off [weak smile]) are organising resistance.

For example, can anyone here write like a misogynist and racist - but crucially, simultaneously? If so, you may be able to help with their 'dummy Indie as if edited by Rod Little' project.

"Liberal Conspiracy (lib dem blog, but we shouldn't let that put us off"

If this is a lib dem blog then it's a side of the party I have never seen before...

It's actually a left wing blog, which means it's communists , socialists and scum
bags fascists (kind of like the pot calling the kettle black there).

I'd rather see freedom of speech than fascists rule the day again .

FrauKoch · 15/01/2010 21:28

Oh bugger atlantis you are quite right I'm getting my blogs confused (I got it through Twitter where all monikers are contracted)

But - why fascists? And I've not seen any commies on Liberal Consp either - would love details?

As far as I am concerned, freedom of speech is a principal. You don't actually need to have an obnoxious arse talking hate-filled shite on a daily basis for it to exist.

Unless you like hate-filled shite, of course.

Fascists advocate the creation of a single-party state, with the belief that the majority is unsuited to govern itself through democracy and by reaffirming the benefits of inequality.

Sounds like the Labour party to me. I'm sure if they could get away with not calling an election by June and just keep merrily
screwing destroying governing the country they would.

Alan Thomas is a blogger.
Also at: Shiraz Socialist

Cath Elliott is a feminist and a trade union activist.

Don Paskini is a Labour party member and works in local government

Stroppybird is a Labour party and union member.

Sunder Katwala is general-secretary of the Fabian Society think-tank

Unity uses a pseudonym. He is a member of the Labour party.

They say;

"We can no longer depend solely on political parties, trade unions or fragmented single-issue lobby groups to drive liberal-left values. "

Normal people answer here

onebatmoron · 16/01/2010 00:47

Lol at list of left-leaning people.

Esp at the feminist.

Your point is? I can't spot a single communist or fascist in that list, can you?

Is this your argument?

atlantis · 16/01/2010 00:56

"I can't spot a single communist or fascist in that list, can you?"

Yes.

"Lol at list of left-leaning people."

What part of 'left wing' politics don't you understand?

The term is applied to a number of movements in Europe, especially socialism, anarchism and communism.

I think you just answered your own question.

onebatmoron · 16/01/2010 01:02

"It's actually a left wing blog, which means it's communists"

erm, well actually, that's not true. It doesn't mean that "it's" communists.

And it certainly doesn't mean it's fascists.

Your logic is circular.

atlantis · 16/01/2010 01:16

"erm, well actually, that's not true. It doesn't mean that "it's" communists.

"Your logic is circular. "

circular argument?

circulus in probando

or

circular reasoning ?

onebatmoron · 16/01/2010 01:42

"Communist" is a subset of "left-wing".
Because some left-wingers are communists, it does not follow, as you imply, that a group of left-wingers will contain communists.

SomeGuy · 16/01/2010 05:46

nobody reads the Independent, I shouldn't worry.

Perhaps if Liddle makes it something interesting rather than po-faced leftwing wank, they might actually sell some more copies.

onebatmoron · 16/01/2010 20:26

lol at your first point SG.

fifibb · 16/01/2010 20:38

i write as a freelancer for The Independent and I can tell you that staff and columnists hate the idea of Liddle as well. Unfortunately, the paper is seriously struggling to stay afloat so the editor-in-chief will do ANYTHING to keep it going, even if it means encouraging the sale of the paper to a Russian and hiring a right-wing fuckwit to take charge of it.

SomeGuy · 20/01/2010 14:53

It looks like Rod has been a very naughty boy:

Wereworm · 20/01/2010 15:04

It would be interesting to know if any of the quoted comments are among the ones he has admitted to Mail on Sunday that he did actually write.

Not hard to imagine him writing 'stupid bitch' or 'someone kick her in the '? (horrible to type that out even with asterisks)

Wereworm · 20/01/2010 15:05

The article looks like it has been assiduously gone through by the lawyers

neenz · 20/01/2010 15:16

Atlantis, how are left-wingers fascists?

The Liberal-left doesn't advocate a single-party state.

If Rod Liddle really did post those racists/offensive messages on the Millwall website then he won't go down well with the Indie readers.

With the lowest number of readers of any mainstream daily paper, the Indie is a prime candidate to go under . Circulations are falling all over the place, it would take a miracle for the Indie's figures to start improving.

OrmRenewed · 20/01/2010 15:20

Well I read the Indie some guy. And Rod Liddle is a twat. I would rather he didn't mess with my paper thanks.

EleanoraBuntingCupcake · 20/01/2010 15:21

indie is london centric and fairly shite if you live outside of the hallowed se

OrmRenewed · 20/01/2010 15:22

Hmmm I agree eleanor but find me a national daily that isn't a bit like that?

EleanoraBuntingCupcake · 20/01/2010 15:24

indie seems especially so. guardian does atleast alter its north and south editions

OrmRenewed · 20/01/2010 15:29

I must admit to loving restaurant reviews and finding it quite funny that almost every one is in London. And when they venture out of the golden circle of London and the SE they get all edgy and uncomfortable

Wereworm · 20/01/2010 15:32

The Guardian's weekend property articles have statements like 'Skipton, N. Yorks -- very beautiful place but has the disadvantage of being a long way away.'

I am miles away. It is very difficlt keeping track of myself.

EleanoraBuntingCupcake · 20/01/2010 16:25

their was an hilarious article years ago by some journalist going undercover in bradford or some such place. his main worry was lack of balsamic vinegar.

OrmRenewed · 20/01/2010 22:02

That is a classic, worm A long way away.... I sometimes wonder how we manage living such a long way away
