Pink Stinks!

This was on the BBC London lunchtime news yesterday. A campaign against the dumbing down and low expectations for girls through the marketing of pink and fluffy toys. Have a look at the website www.pinkstinks.co.uk/
Personally I think this is long overdue. ELC have decided that every toy is gender specific and I was shocked to find that dressing up clothes are segregated. Girls can be a nurse but only boys can be a doctor! What happened to aiming high?!

Saw piece on BBC breakfast news about this today. About time, as you say! Shocked at the ELC though.

dd was given a medical play set when she was little, she instantly said something like "look at me i'm a nurse" to which i definately replied " no darling you're a doctor!"

I think it's about time.

It even extends to adult women. I was looking for some sparring gear (for martial arts) the other day that were smaller sizes (i.e. suitable for women). The very first site I found, the only colour option I had was pink, ffs.

(to clarify, it's not the colour so much that horrifies me as the assumption that the only way we can attract women into martial arts is if we can have attractive pink gear to distract us!!!)

It's just become a shorthand for female, hasn't it. Boak.
