Because they were 'hungry' they killed and cooked a rat.
Now the Aussies have set a date for a hearing for animal cruelty charges.

Isn't that a bit over the top though?
It was only a rat.
I have never watched this programme, so I don't even know if it's true. I just think this story is a bit weird.
It also says in the report that the hearing is in Feb 2009. I wonder if they have a time machine?

Because the producers didn't actually do it.

Curiousmama · 07/12/2009 22:15

No but they 'produced' the show and edited it. They should've stopped it. Surely if they have cameras on these guys then they have control?

ABetaDad · 07/12/2009 22:15

I am qite sure people in the outback of Australia eat wild animals. I am sure I have seen it on TV programs about Aboriginal tribes.

This makes no sense to me unless the killing was deliberately cruel.

alwayslookingforanswers · 07/12/2009 22:15

but they gave the go ahead after being asked if it was ok.

This whole thing is SILLY.

The people genuinely wanted to eat the rat - they did eat the rat - the fact they were being filmed is by the by - they did not kill the rat out of sadism or for a laugh or because they enjoyed being cruel or to make a show of it. They did it because they were hungry, and they ate it. Fine.

Australians are not exactly known for not being extremely carniverous.

And what about all the grubs and things which really are killed for entertainment? The people don't want to eat them but they have to as part of the competition. At least our mate the rat gave a good meal.

I can't see what the problem is here.

PeedOffWithNits · 08/12/2009 20:44

They killed an animal as cleanly and quickly as they could and ATE it, whats the problem, I really don't see it. If they had killed it because they did not like it round them, or to stop it eating their rations or whatever, and tossed it away, that would have been a whole different thing.
