What's the crack with a red inhaler? It looked red to me on the brief glimpse I got on the ITV news, before switching it off to do something more important like sleeping.
Just curious - never seen a red inhaler before - am I missing out on something?

SkipToMyLou · 25/11/2009 16:45

Obviously a special VB-designed one! Can't be seen using a NORMAL one!

I'm a mild asthmatic and it makes me feel revolting, weak and sexually unattractive. It really affects my self image if I think about it so I try not to.

mejon · 26/11/2009 14:10

He might only just have developed asthma. My father was in his early 60s when his started. I agree though, not really news is it and don't know why I'm commenting on it .

DD said to me yesterday that she's quite surprised he hasn't been working publicly with Asthma charities as he's quite big on charity if i remember rightly?

TBH i don't think we should HAVE to know, but i do think it would probably have been very inspirational for children with asthma to know David Beckham did/does

Its the same as my when my son was diagnosed with diabetes, Sir Steve Redgrave was a huge inspiration to him, and even replied personally to the letter he sent him - to a six year old boy dealing with something like that it is really uplifting and motivating!!

ronshar · 26/11/2009 22:20

I thought medical details were confidential, so DB is under no obligation to tell the Sun he has Asthma.
Why do we feel that people in the public eye have to tell us everything about themselves?

I love PS and OGS. My favourite was Kanchelskis, although I cant spell his name. It was his eyes. Dont forget Cantona. Legend.

Skiptomylou This may be of use, the fact sheet I thought are very helpful
Asthma should be no hinderence for your son and in fact playing any active sport will only help him as his lungs will be fitter and more efficient.
I played rugby and was a mild asthmatic and it did not stop me enjoying the game. I hope the same applies for your son.
FWIW I think it is great that Beckham has been photos with an inhaler. Kids will see that asthma is no barrier.

BrokenArm · 27/11/2009 12:57

Lots of top athletes are asthmatics -- extremely common among cyclists, for instance. I imagine in some cases it's the result of damage they've done to themselves by training so hard.

edam · 29/11/2009 00:53

dh is asthmatic, very poorly as a child and often Off Games at school. Didn't stop him becoming a very proficient sword fighter though. (I think he'd have been keener on PE if they'd allowed weapons, tbh.)

Sorry BGD, only just saw that - thanks for posting that link, and for the support. You're right, getting the right meds has been a help but more than that going out and getting exercise whenever possible, even when he's bunged up with a cold, has made a huge difference to his asthma. I remember seeing a kid with Cystic Fibrosis on Wife Swap (of all places!) who did tons of exercise to help keep his chest clear, that's when I decided to stop wrapping him up all the time and let him be himself.
