news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/8154419.stm

Big jump from just Monday.

55,000 (suspected) cases now too, another huge jump from the 10,000 figure bandied about.

But what purpose does the thread serve? What is it doing for anyone?

You might as well be drawing up a seat with a prime view of the guillotine.

"29 ... and counting ..." ffs!

monkeytrousers · 16/07/2009 22:50

I don't disagree with the thread. Please don't ask it to be deleted or subsumed into a ghetto.

The counter-arguments are worth more than that!

poface · 16/07/2009 22:55

Thanks Bananafruitbat, that is good to know.

monkeytrousers · 16/07/2009 22:56

AK, you have a right to express yourself on here in as much tabloid terms as you wish - the fact that I (and others) vehemently disagree with you is part of this right. I disagree with you, and hope you can allay even part of your anxiety by the fact that most of us either have had SF and/or are carriers but will still survive as long as we don't go on the Cabbage Diet will help you get things in perspecticve

AitchTwoOh · 16/07/2009 22:57

a swine flu section is hardly a ghetto , it'll just be hideable in it's own topic.

AitchTwoOh · 16/07/2009 22:58

so if it gets its own topic, mt, just don't hide it and you'll be able to fight the good fight should you want to.

poface · 16/07/2009 22:59

yes but to be fair if you've already had SF you can afford to be a little more blase. I didn't see the thread title as disrespectful, well, no more than all the initial press reports from officials telling people not to worry as 'only' those with underlying health problems had died....

monkeytrousers · 16/07/2009 22:59

I never hide it Aich!

Just offering a differnt perspctive - you don;t have to argue against them all you know

monkeytrousers · 16/07/2009 23:00

oh, you wuick!

noddyholder · 16/07/2009 23:05

dreadful tabloid type thread and no help at all

billysitch · 16/07/2009 23:45

I doubt any of us is in a panic mode, I think it is good to have a thread where one can ask questions and have different opinions even if some feel it is sensationalistic then sobeit, each to their own.

Titsalina and Banana thank you for your posts, I find them informative and helpful.

And wheely, so sorry to hear about your friend.

slowreadingprogress · 17/07/2009 00:11

realistically you need one of these threads every year for ordinary, seasonal flu.
That kills around 4000 people a year apparently. We don't need this hysteria about it. It's so whipped up by the media. Can't wait till Jordan find a new boyfriend, then they'll forget about swine flu for a bit

monkeytrousers · 17/07/2009 07:21

Anyone remember Iran?

MumofIsaac · 17/07/2009 08:54

"Billysitch & Wheeleybug" - the NCT website has got a good section on b-feeding & swine flu -
www.nctpregnancyandbabycare.com/info-centre/information/view-117

It basically says the best thing you can do isto continue feeding 'until the risk of infection is clear'.

HTH

imaynotbeperfectbutimokmummy · 17/07/2009 09:05

Shit, my nephew has it

Kayteee · 17/07/2009 10:20

Well I know 4 people who have been diagnosed over the last few weeks, 2 adults (not related) and 2 kids (related) and they are all fine. It lasted a few days and they had no problems getting better with the usual, over the counter meds, lots of water and tlc.
Hope that helps someone feel less stressed

Wheelybug · 17/07/2009 11:55

Thanks Billysitch - I wasn't too personally involved thankfully.

MumofIsaac - Thanks for that info ( darn, I was so looking forward to giving up ).

One of my friends came up to me today in a panic because she'd heard 1 in 3 will get it. But that means 2 in 3 won't !!! Lets go and burn all the papers...
