here

A lot of people shouted "Journalist!!!"

I thought, surely not, could be real. Well I saw the DM today and an article which could have been cobbled together from this thread is in there.

I'm becoming more cynical.

oldlady- one in five is the same as 21%

FAQinglovely · 17/06/2009 20:58

yes 21% is 1 in 5

but

"19% are to women aged over 35, of whom 21% are over 40."

21% of the 19% born to women over 25 isn't 1 in 5

There is a massive report out this week, which I suspect is more influential on setting the newspapers agenda than an MN thread, TBH

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 17/06/2009 21:07

I read (somewhere on MN today) that approximately 3 - 4 % of all births are to women aged over 40.

spicemonster · 17/06/2009 21:14

mp - I'm sure the RCOG report was the basis for the article. But I suspect that the journo added some 'colour' to her story by reading the thread. Just too many similarities IMO

lou031205 · 17/06/2009 21:15

Yes, because 21% of 19% is 3.99%.

morningpaper · 17/06/2009 21:19

spicemonster all that tells you is that screeching women sound like the Daily Mail

A sober lesson to us all

spicemonster · 17/06/2009 21:28

Thanks very much mp

FAQinglovely · 17/06/2009 21:34

lol @ MP

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 17/06/2009 21:37

Oh good, lou031205, I didn't do the sum.

UnquietDad · 17/06/2009 21:38

Does anybody else get drawn into these Daily Mail links and then find themselves clicking on the other stories - Pixiebelle Geldof's new girlfriend, Chazza Bono's sex change, Jordan's photoshoot, Allison Pearson's "burka rage" and the whole damn lot? I feel quite dirty.

morningpaper · 17/06/2009 21:43

IKWYM UQD. It makes me hate myself.

yama · 17/06/2009 21:47

Every time UQD, every time.

MaggieBee · 17/06/2009 22:04

I love the DM, it's just so...so... outraged all the time, so judgey and often just such shoddy journalism... but then I have to go and cleanse myself by reading a worthy.

PaulaYatesMum · 17/06/2009 22:57

yes uqd i do.... dp and i end up hooked

shameful

PaulaYatesMum · 17/06/2009 22:59

EachPeachPearMum · 17/06/2009 23:03

I thought it was just me that did that!
Its so compelling, yet sullying,....

UnquietDad · 17/06/2009 23:27

It's basically "Heat" for people who vote Tory and know how to hold their cutlery properly, isn't it?

SomeGuy · 17/06/2009 23:46

DM online is great, because you don't have to buy the thing.
