I think when that kitchen nightmares thing came out it was quite a new thing to see a rude sarcy professional being nasty to dimboid rubbishy people who couldn't do their jobs properly. Some of the people working in those places were quite spectacularly crap.

The "I can't believe anyone would stoop to criticising my wife" rubbish was a complete red herring. No-one criticised her, the criticism was of his treatment of her.
