\Man set on fire{http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/tm_objectid=15488436%26method=full%26siteid=94762%26headline=fire%2dfiends-name_page.html\and filmed}

I can't help wondering why they only got 6 years. They want locking up and the key throwing away!!!

That is absolutely disgusting - six years!!!! Makes my blood boil.

BarbaraX · 08/05/2005 21:53

I thought the same thing when I read it yesterday. human life is less important than property, i wonder if they robbed a bank the courts would have been so lenient.

Janos · 08/05/2005 22:05

saadia you're not wrong.

Apparently the reduced sentence is due to their age. What on earth difference that makes I don't know. I just cannot get over how someone could commit such a vicious, sadistic attack.

what on earth has their age got to do with it. They're squaddies . They're meant to protect us and our country not do this

megandsoph · 09/05/2005 09:40

why on earth did they get a frikkin 6 years sentence when they are 18 if they are old enough to vote drink and drive they are old enough to frikking to the whole bloody 12 yrs IMO

They should at least go to collie prison due to them being in the army where they will get treat a whole lot worse than normal civvy prison.

Hermione1 · 09/05/2005 09:42

so because they are 18 they don't get 12 years how does that one work out???? if anything they should get longer.

jessicasmummy · 09/05/2005 09:47

this just puts squaddies in a bad light. As an army wife, this really bugs me because not all squaddies are like this. Fail to see how they got in the army in the first place!

megandsoph · 09/05/2005 09:56

Jessicasmummy I know hun i'm a ex squaddie of four years hun and am married to a squaddie too I know what u mean. there has been so much bad press about the army latley it's sad really

Caligula · 09/05/2005 10:28

I can't understand how their age justifies the sentence. With good behaviour, they'll be out in 2 years and will have learned that setting someone alight and ruining their life is no big deal really.

I hope the man who was attacked gets his lawyers to appeal against this sentence. The case is horrific.

dottee · 09/05/2005 10:50

I hope the sentence can be increased too! Just been reading the story from the local newspaper . How terrible!

juniperdewdrop · 09/05/2005 10:55

That poor, poor man.

For want of sounding like a geriatric I really think young people are being desensitised to such things with tv and video games. I know 3 year olds who play grand theft auto and tbh I wouldn't let my boys mix with them because of their strange behaviour. I dread to think how they'll turn out in years to come?

Janos · 09/05/2005 16:20

Well I'm not a geriatric either (only 30) and I agree with you juniper. Why would anyone let a 3 year old play GTA for G*ds sake?

OP posts:
FIMAC1 · 09/05/2005 20:06

Hang on - GTA is an 18!

like others have said, I feel so old [sad}

TwoIfBySea · 10/05/2005 23:13

Totally agree with you Juniper, it is the desensitisation of children that is causing this. DH gave SIL a lecture last year for buying her 9-year-old ds GTA. Her response was that her DH bought it for him.

It is that attitude that is bringing up scum that think it fun to burn someone alive. Sends chills down my spine at the callousness of it all.

And 6 years is an absolute joke of a sentence. When are judges going to start punishing properly?
