There's a cartoon (Mac? I'm not sure) in a paper. An MP saying 'As soon as it was revealed what I'd been up to, I knew the Speaker had to go..'

Yes he had to go. But he sure isn't the only one. Not by a long shot. They're all falling over trying to out-morally outrage each other now. Anything that takes the focus away from individuals.

disillusionedmum · 20/05/2009 13:50

Hmm why not have a reality TV show Big Bro style or Britain's Got Talent thing to choose the best speaker...

I have to say re all the tosh and nonsense about mm and his deprived background , being poor doesnt make you dishonest but being dishonest can make you rich .

FuriousGeorge · 20/05/2009 18:59

Edam, you said exactly what I was thinking.I was heartily sick of MM blaming any criticism in the past,on snobbery about his working class background. He feathered his nest nicely thanks to all of us.

Also agree with you re Prince Charles,he has lovely manners and is a very kind and considerate person.

Smallwhitecat - just to go off topic here re the BF in the HoC - she was right to not allow that. It is a place of work, if you want to BF your child stay at home, you can express milk at work and give that to your baby but why should MPs be treated any differently to the rest of us. I'm damn sure my employer wouldn't have let me take my baby into work every time she needed feeding.

BTW I am very pro BF and would have gone mad at anyone who'd have tried to stop me feeding either of my girls, however when you are at work you are there to do a job.

Sorry hijack over

'Michael Martin started out with such ideals. He was a working class guy, a trade unionist '

He came from one of the most corrupt parts of the Labour party--jobs for boys, hand-outs, bungs.

And what about his expenses? £4000 on taxis, mainly used by his wife to go shopping? WTF?

Thank you, Furious!
