NEW PRESS HORROR! Mumsnet quoted txt-spking in the Sun

(OK this is a week old article but still)

A typical Mumsnet thread reads: "Why do I fancy Justin so much?"

Now I do not mind us being gently ribbed for having sexual thoughts about Mr Tumble, but THIS, my friends, is not acceptable:

"Debate moves to his Something Special slapstick alter-ego Mr Tumble, a clown who uses Makaton sign language to communicate with kids with learning difficulties: "He?s so lovely am i mad lol im gettin obsessed i even watch cbeebies wen im on my own"."

OK Who is responsible for this? We sound like a ghastly Private Eye pastiche. This must STOP before we are swamped with pram-swapping huns and txt-spking numpties.

We must fight this tide of nonsense!

pmsl and screaming at the same time!

Hassled · 25/04/2009 12:19

To paraphrase PW, someone amongst us have not only let themselves down, they've let the whole of Mumsnet down.

Hassled · 25/04/2009 12:20

has

Mumcentreplus · 25/04/2009 12:21

OMG......admit!!

Littlefish · 25/04/2009 12:21

at Hassled's first post.

VinegarTitsThePorker · 25/04/2009 12:22

oh the shame of it, are you sure The Sun have not miss quoted and meant netmums and not mumsnet, if so we should sue

Hassled · 25/04/2009 12:24

I didn't really help our case there, did I?

We is literate on MN, honest.

MollieO · 25/04/2009 12:25

That sentence reads as if the Sun thinks the quote was written by 'a kid with learning difficulties'!

I never read the textspeak one paragraph no punctuation goes on forever comments! They make me go cross-eyed.

madameovary · 25/04/2009 12:26

MP first time I've read the Sun since I was about 12.
ALL YOUR FAULT.

Agree with the consensus though. I definitely "would"

pagwatch · 25/04/2009 12:26

and and all at the same time.

So glad I never ventured onto the 'Mr Tumble is my love god' threads.....

EachPeachPearMum · 25/04/2009 12:48

erm 'special needs children'?
children with special needs, please.
Sun- must do better.

Snorbs · 25/04/2009 13:28

Surely you're not implying that The Sun would engage in cheap, shoddy, reactionary and inaccurate journalism, are you? Or that The Sun regularly makes stuff up? Heaven forfend...

I'd rather read the contents of a tin of Alphabetti Spaghetti than The Sun. It would be more coherent and more truthful.

MrsMagooo · 25/04/2009 13:50

Oh dear, as a "pram swapping hun" I guess I should remove myself from MN then

Have to say that's the first time I've looked at The Sun in many years though!

Peachy · 25/04/2009 13:52

Ah Mrs magoooo I believe you stick to the pram swapping hun section do you not?

I feel it is the invasion of such threads onto chat as per incident We Remember With Tears that people bemoan

snigger · 25/04/2009 13:53

Perhaps we should take the higher path, like a politician's wife, and give a press release at the garden gate stating how we're going to put it all behind us and stand by the text speaking illiterate valued member.

Peachy · 25/04/2009 14:00

Ah yesm but do weget to shag the gardener like the Politicians wife? PMSl

MrsMagooo · 25/04/2009 14:10

Peachy I used to frequent the pram chat but haven't done for a while now as don't have the need now that I'm not really pram swapping!

Good old Sky+ comes in handy for Something Special/Higgidly House

beanieb · 25/04/2009 14:15

this thread?

HecatesTwopenceworth · 25/04/2009 14:19

Dear God, that's one of us??!

AIBU to actually, really, GENUINELY be embarrassed by that?

It's like when someone from my home town was interviewed on tv - the accent was TERRIBLE and they couldn't string a sentence together and it made me cringe! i somehow felt more embarrassed because we came from the same place. Odd, I know.

This feels the same.

PheasantPlucker · 25/04/2009 14:21

Fantastic!

tiredsville · 25/04/2009 20:42

Mumsnet is becoming pretty infamous. Snippets of the MN Bumsex threads may find its way in Playboy magazine soon.
