This has made my blood boil. One of the criteria for them staying in the uk is that they must have served 20 years, but apparently Gurkhas only serve 15 years .

How disgusting that men who have fought hard for us shouldn't be allowed to live here. As I understand it Gurkhas are exceptional troops.

Can't do link as I'm on my blackberry being ill on the sofa.

I have jsut read this, it's shocking it really is. We shouldn't be surprised though should we, after all the Governemnt does nothing to help the Armed Forces personnel in any way

Yes, terrible.

pagwatch · 24/04/2009 13:40

Quite quite shameful
( God the things these people do in our name )

FiveGoMadInDorset · 24/04/2009 13:43

It disgusts me, especially when the Immigration minister basically implied that we as the public, really don't want them here anyway.

Absolutely shameful behaviour by our Government. My mum organised a petition months back and not one person she asked to sign opposed letting them stay.Joanna Lumley was saying at lunchtime that she had received over 100,000 letters in support and not one disagreeing with the idea.

So,in our Governments opinion, the Gurkhas are good enough to die for our county, but not good enough to live here, and to add insult to injury, claim it is because we don't want them!

Noonki · 24/04/2009 19:55

a national disgrace imo.

Any Gurkhas who retired after 1997 are allowed to settle here. Those who retired before that knew when they signed up that they would have no automatic right to settle.

1997 was 12 years ago so why has this only come up now?
