Same here, ggirl - and at Whipsnade prices the least they can do is lay on a keeper being mangled by a lion...

brimfull · 11/04/2009 22:35

definitely a keeper sarifice should be included in the price

edam · 11/04/2009 22:48

I did once see something that justified the price at Chester Zoo. Horrible little boys taunting a sleeping lion, yelling stuff and I think rattling a stick against the bars (this was years back when I was a kid, imagine lion enclosure at Chester may be rather different now).

Lion ignored them for ages and ages. Then eventually decided something had to be done. Got up very slowly, padding nonchalantly over to where the brats were standing... cocked his leg and shot a stream of foul-smelling pee all over them. They were soaked.

I have never seen anything more satisfying at a zoo, ever. That lion should have been on a bonus.

heeheehee love it, edam!

another contender for the darwin awards ( well at least a dishonerable mention)pmsl at the leg- cocking lion!

JeanPoole · 12/04/2009 14:28

Edam, do you remember the orangutan at Chester Zoo in the 70's?

He used to be on an island with a low wall around the moat, and would come down to the water's edge and hop about until a large crowd had gathered to watch him.

Then he'd pick up a big branch he had lying there, splash it into the water and soak everyone - he was genius!

JeanPoole · 12/04/2009 21:08

fb, he sounds great

The polar bear bit her right on the behind as she's being dragged out. imagine trying to explain that one at work 'Well no I can't sit down because...'

Seriously she's either very unwell or very stupid.

TwoIfBySea · 12/04/2009 22:23

Note that the polar bears only had a nibble. She couldn't have been to their taste.

I don't feel sorry for her at all and as I am going through a cruel bitch phase at the moment (hey call it grief, look it up in Kubler-Ross) then I'd have left her dumb ass in there.

drlove8alltheeastereggs · 12/04/2009 23:08

polar bears are the only animal to have no natural predators! why else are they in pited(high sides ect) in zoo enclosures. think the woman might have learned that now?

TitsalinaBumsquash · 12/04/2009 23:12

In Marwell Zoo there are signs on the Lion enclosure saying please don't stand to close as the Lions spray. Ewwwww

I'm not sure what the hell was going round that womans head?! Poor Polar Bears they have enough to deal with being in a bloody zoo being gawped at by humans all day long, let alone one nutter taking a swim with them.

drlove8alltheeastereggs · 12/04/2009 23:22

i always read that as purple psycotics lol

AitchTwoOh · 12/04/2009 23:24

in the photos, even as one of them is preparing to bite her arse off, they do look very kindly... almost like they're smiling... i can see how if you were plumb off your rocker you might think that they would be your white, furry pals.

Northernlurker · 13/04/2009 10:00

Plumb off your rocker so that you don't notice their enormous teeth and massive clawed paws....actually they seemed to get as much fun out of her cardigan as they did from her so maybe they are quite kindly after all Or maybe as zoo reared animals they had no idea what to do with live prey.

HerBeatitudeLittleBella · 13/04/2009 17:31

Blimey. V. v. lucky that she didn't think it would be a good idea to let her baby come with her to get closer to the polar bears...

Pixel · 14/04/2009 22:24

I got an email a few weeks ago with pictures of a man who was attacked by a polar bear while camping. He managed to shoot the bear but the pics of his injuries are not a pretty sight. Perhaps they should put similar photos up in the zoo to deter idiots like this!
