shite but not uncommon.

Many, many women go back (and back and back and back) to men who do FAR worse to them than he did to her.

I provoked him
he didn't mean it
but he loves me
he'll change
if only I could do X, Y, Z
he was drunk
he's usually so good to me
i can't cope without him
i don't want to be alone
I don't want to lose the house
the kids would miss him

etc etc etc

it's very sad.

Isn't chris brown that young lad with the lisp?

Nighbynight · 28/02/2009 17:53

Poor Rihanna. She will have to make the journey over those obstacles herself. Just hope she has support from her family.

fryalot · 28/02/2009 17:55

but she loves him.

She must love him, because if she didn't love him, I mean really love him, then she wouldn't let him control her so much. She wouldn't let him beat her, hit her, kick her if she didn't love him.

And if she doesn't go back to him, nobody else will want her, because she's ugly, isn't she, and stupid, and irritating and (insert anything other character flaw he may have convinced her that she suffers from)

And if she doesn't go back to him, she may have said goodbye to her one chance of happiness.

And anyway, he said he's sorry, he won't do it again.

KayHarker · 28/02/2009 18:00

Oh, but didn't you hear? She deserved it because she gave him a cold sore. Or something.

*Disclaimer: I am being sarcastic. She shouldn't go back to him.

grouchyoscar · 28/02/2009 18:00

Squonk...Get your tongue right out of your cheek me dear.

fryalot · 28/02/2009 18:08

actually, I was being fairly genuine.

That's how men like this get away with it, they chip away at your self esteem till there's almost nothing left. Then they start to physically abuse you, when you are so tied to them through your ridiculously low opinion of yourself that you daren't leave because of the shit they've addled your brain with.

I think it is a testament to how bloody manipulative these men can be when someone as successful and gorgeous as Rihanna can be sucked in.

So... tongue in cheek, but seriously so.

grouchyoscar · 28/02/2009 18:23

Oh I understand you. I had a toxic mother who ran the whole gamutt of those bullying tactics past me and It took me 12 years to truly break away from the damage

All we can do is wish her well and be supportive really (in our own 'cyber supportive' way)

Meglet · 28/02/2009 20:11

I hope it's not true, but the odds are that it is .
