It's got to be a pisstake - the bloke clearly thinks he's the Irish equivalent of Jeremy Clarkson - 'ooh, I say the unsayable in an amusing cheeky-chappy way'. I imagine there would be a few letters to the paper pointing out that it's only the men who can't geever get a date and have ishoos about their cock size who fear and dislike women this much - and mot other men think men like this are tragic wankers.

what a load of wank. I have always worked in "male environments", i deserve my place at work and i thoroughly deserve my success. Rather than causing the credit crunch i have made an awful lot of money for a few companies over the last 10 yrs or so. Which is why i am now boss to rather a lot of men.

I think it is tongue in cheek - but I suppose the fact that there are more women in the workforce is relevant when looking at statistics - eg unemployment in Ireland is at its highest levels since records began in the 1960's. Having grown up there in a recession I initially found that hard to believe - I knew far more unemployed people in the early 80s than I do now. But of course if there were less women working/looking for work back then it makes sense...

thing is, though, my mum and dad were able to afford a better house than i ever could on one wage... more workers, more money, more money to pay for houses etc, prices go up... property bubble. KA-BOOM. i would aver that for all the money in our homes at the moment (flatscreen, leather sofas, you know) our standard of living is a great deal less than when we could just afford to live on one salary. it's a shame, really.

There was a Bank of England report about 10 years ago that suggested female employment effectively fuelled the economic boom.

However I seem to recall there was another report that suggests unemployment figures went down in the mid 1990s because women were finding work rather than men.

Bring on the matriarchy, I say. We are obviously the solution.

In my case, I am the one working full time and bringing in the money, while dh sets up a business, so if I gave up work, we'd be stuffed.

I agree with Aitch that the rise in dual income families has almost certainly contributed to the property bubble (along with daft lending multiples).

I wouldn't fancy telling my DW she has to give up her job for some inept bloke to take over though. She's great at it and loves it. This particular genie has long been out of the bottle - the answer is in tighter financial regulations and lower house prices to give families more choice over who works.

I don'tework becuase I am n carers Allowancew and therefore get to 'see' the value of work from a different viewpoint to most I tink: work isnt just about money uit'sabout socialising, self esteem etc. Now if I didnt have to not work I might choose to be at home but thats difference- the value of choice is incalculanle.

I am what is classed as a single parent and i always made sure i had my own money and be a good role model for my kids by working.. i know there are pro's and cons, i would LOVE to be a SAHM for instance, i think that would be better for my kids tbh, but have to make the best of things, i can not afford to be SAHM
Ok i could if i went back on IS but what kind of life is that lol its crap money there is hardly any way to live on it, you can SURVIVE but not live IMO.
Sometimes wonder if i am better off for working though cos i do not own my home, or a car, i couldn't afford to do either. I agree the best way to get on if you work is if you and your partner work and have good wages.
Otherwise you can only just about manage

There are many reasons for the credit crunch: lack of regulation, greed by both bankers and consumers, the American budget deficit....... I certianly wouldn't put "working women" high on the list!
