What's the best Sunday paper?

entirely subjective I know, but while I am a faithful Guardian reader and I love their Saturday paper, I am really fed up with the Observer, I find the quality of the writing especially in the supplements is very poor, the articles are boring and repetitive and I am just fed up with reading about the environment every single Sunday.

So what do you think would be a good alternative for me?

It's to cover her chin, surely. Sorry, I know that's chinnist and I think she's ok (in case she's reading) but her column is running out of steam.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 29/01/2009 01:10

I buy all of them. The Sunday supplements are always rubbish, though I do like music monthly in the observer.

jujumaman · 29/01/2009 11:40

I always think K Flett must be covering a hideous weeping cold sore.

She is a good writer, but totally agree her column is flim flam. I never read it. Barbara Ellen's is mindless bimboish stream of consciousness waffle. As for Polly V - oh, lala how could you?

I buy the paper for Nige's recipes and the Music Monthly (which oddly is far less fluffy and sleb driven than the other two supplements)

Baconsarnie · 29/01/2009 14:17

I'll probably get flamed, but I find Nigel S deeply smug. His recipes are good tho. Have come round to La Flett, but didn't she used to write a v irritating column about her fab relationship/wedding/marriage, and then he left her? Or was that just Liz Jones?

Yes Nigel is a bit...erm....strange.

He appears to have far more sunny afternoons on the garden terrace than I do anyway! perhaps the British weather is better in his little corner.

tiredsville · 29/01/2009 18:10

I don't bother with Sunday Supp's anymore. Saturdays Guardian usually keeps going over the weekend.

RiojaLover75 · 29/01/2009 18:15

We read the Observer here. I love the Sunday suppliments especially the food and woman ones, DH loves the sport and music ones. So every other week we're each both happy with lots of bits to read.

lalalonglegs · 29/01/2009 18:57

Do you like Polly Vernon's pieces too..?

Tinker · 29/01/2009 19:14

The sport one seems to come round much more often than the others

jujumaman · 29/01/2009 20:23

I think Nigel is beyond odd - have you read his memoir Toast?

OCD and, I suspect, full of suppressed rage. Not an easy man to live with, I'd wager.

But you'd eat well.

lala here is a fine analysis of PV's interviewing technique. Fine blog in general

RiojaLover75 · 29/01/2009 22:21

lala depends if you do too!

Aefondkiss · 29/01/2009 22:28

I used to love the Observer, cannot stand it now, Polly Vernon, Nige etc, so smug, yeech.

I do really like the Saturday Guardian, and my dd loves the comic, so it has replaced our Sunday paper - lots to read.

kikid · 29/01/2009 22:37

Another vote for saturdays guardian here..

lalalonglegs · 30/01/2009 10:29

You'll be fine in here with me, Rioja

Docbunches · 30/01/2009 14:12

My DP usually buys the Guardian on Saturdays and Observer on Sundays. We stopped reading the Sunday Times quite recently as my DP reckons it's practically a work of fiction now.

ahundredtimes · 30/01/2009 14:14

I still like The Observer
