Look at these photos and then tell me and the world that the Israeli bombardment of Gaza is 'necessary.'

These photos are very disturbing, personally I don't think we should be shielded from the horrors of war, but I underatnd the risk of desentisation.

Anyway, they put our academic discussions on this in perspective.

Warning: Terrible photos of children in Gaza

The hatred goes round and round, how much more hatred has been created today?

I agree, but it is horrific to look at them.....I have no understanding as to how they could let this kind of thing happen now, why don't people learn from the past.

sherazade · 16/01/2009 19:38

bloody fucking hell.

sherazade · 16/01/2009 19:41

dont think i'll ever forget that someone on this forum says that israel's reaction wasn't really suprising 'coz there's lots of anti semitism going around!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nantucket · 16/01/2009 19:49

Sherazade, I wish you hadn't looked tbh..

Actaully I wish I hadn't looked

But I think there are some people who need to face up to the reality here of what is being done.

What the world is letting Israel do.

What an awful, awful tragedy!

There is nothing that can possibly justify oing this to any human being never mind an innocent child.

The tears are coming thick and fast here but atleast now it may spur me on to try and do something about it, well as much as my little voice can do.

LifestylesOfThePoorAndUnknown · 16/01/2009 19:55

Nantucket I think you are right though some people just need a sharp shock.

I have a link to the amnesty wesite with a petition will post it on a new thread

sherazade · 16/01/2009 19:56

don't mean to hijack the thread nantuck but here is a 2 min video clip, really touching, about gaza. i think people DO need to know the extent of suffering.

really sad, short film about gaza

mamadiva · 16/01/2009 20:08

Amnesty petition thread

I have started this thread in conjunction with this, it sounds strange but thank you for opening my eyes to the extent of these poor, innocent people over there.

There is only so much we can do but if we keep troubling the government maybe something can be done about it.

MrsFreud · 16/01/2009 20:12

"maybe something can be done about it."

what exactly?????

sherazade · 16/01/2009 20:14

well, ideally speaking, in an ideal world where there really WAS justice and democoblahblah, israel would be put on trial for war crimes, and sanctioned for its behaviour.
fancy that, sanctions against israel.
now i really am dreaming..

Nantucket · 16/01/2009 20:23

Sherazade, no worries about hi jacking, the more info we can get out about the truth of what is happening in gaza now the better.

A small thing we can try to do.

Imagine the pictures which would be coming out if international journalists allowed in.

Well I watch aljazeera and have been glued to it since the start of the assault. when i'm not on mn or breaking up fights between dd1 and dd2, that is
i have seen some heartwrenching, heartwrenching, stories.

seeker · 16/01/2009 20:32

With a bit of luck, the time when the Israeli government can do whatever it wants is coming to an end.

Nantucket · 16/01/2009 20:38

I hope so Seeker.

I won't look at the photos - can't bring myself to - but thanks for posting the link nantucket. I think people do need to know what's going on and they're not going to find out from most of the news coverage in the west.

Going to steel myself to read John Pilger in the New Statesman later.

southeastastra · 16/01/2009 20:49

i saw them on the other thread.

i think photos like these should be shown.

donnie · 16/01/2009 20:55

doggiesayswoof - John Pilger is a great journalist and I read his stuff avidly. It isn't pleasant reading though.

SEA - agree photos like this need to be shown. However revolting they may be.

Sherezade - I feel for you, I really do. It sounds corny but I am with you, as are many, many others.

Lizzylou · 16/01/2009 20:58

This is horrific, can't believe that tis is happening, and that the world is turning a blind eye.
It is so so wrong
These photos NEED to be shown so that this can stop, it is obscene that nothing is being done to stop this

southeastastra · 16/01/2009 21:05

photographic evidence says so much more than normal reporting

southeastastra · 16/01/2009 21:05

written reporting

Heathcliffscathy · 16/01/2009 21:08

i'm boycotting israeli goods. naomi klein was fantastic about this in the guardian the other day (i think it was the guardian). she said that's what brought down apartheid. in the end it comes down to economics. boycott israeli goods.

will look up the article.

Heathcliffscathy · 16/01/2009 21:09

here it is it is fantastic

mananny · 16/01/2009 21:14

This is beyond horrific. I wish there was a way for all of the under-18's to be evacuated. This is NOT their war. They need to be protected.

BouncingTurtle · 16/01/2009 21:14

The sooner the UN start war crimes proceedings against Israel the better.

I know Hamas have killed many, but not on the sheer scale the Israelis have!
