Mean Spirited Attack on Peter Kay

What on earth inspired this piece of evil minded vitriol ?

IMO it goes beyond valid criticism and is just downright vicious. Especially this bit:

"PETER Kay is an old school, 16-stone light entertainer of a kind that 30 years ago would have been telling crap jokes about Chinkies, Pakis and West Indians called Chalkie"

What the chuffin heck has Peter Kay ever done to Tony Parsons?

Garlic Bread...it's the future.

And on the other hand, the people who read the Mirror are...what? It's hardly the paper that leads intellectual debate is it! Tony Parsons sounds as if he's trying to make a name for himself...whereas Pater Kay already has. I think we should feel nothing but pity for Mr Parsons, stupid old duffer.

paolosgirl · 23/03/2005 18:00

Peter even...

Garlic bread isn't the future Cheesecake is!

DS2 has a friend whose mother goes to the same gym as PK in Bolton, and apparently the reason he never gets any thinner despite the gym is that he spends so much time being irresistibly hilarious on the exercise bike he has no breath left to pedal .

gingerbear · 23/03/2005 18:27

I love Peter Kay, BUT.......

My SIL is related to one of the short people who appeared on Phoenix nights. She asked him to ask Peter for an autograph for my niece. PK told him to F* off and if he wanted an autograph he would have to pay for it!!

Maybe he was having a bad day??

Hulababy · 23/03/2005 18:30

Peter Kay doesn't really just tell jokes anyway, does he?

It's more observational stuff which many of us canrelate too. Far funnier than mere jokes!

Il love the wedding bit - so like the weddings I went to as a child!

giraffeski, you didn't really think that???

katierocket · 23/03/2005 19:15

Funniest comedian in years IMO.
And I've met him and he's a lovely, down to earth guy, no pretensions whatsoever.

MunchedTooManyMarsLady · 23/03/2005 19:30

We love Peter Kay in this house

Kayleigh · 23/03/2005 19:35

I think Peter Kay is brilliant. Phoenix Nights was hysterical. Dh and I saw him live in London and I was in stitches.

He's a very funny man, seema like a "good bloke" when interviewed (he was on Parky a couple of weeks ago) and he really doesn't deserve that sort of attack.

AuntyQuated · 23/03/2005 19:39

janh - i go to the same gym as Peter Kay. he doesn't do a lot - walks on the tread mill, everyone just ignores him and lets him get on with it. but i bet he is watching everyone like a hawk for future material he'll find plenty...there are 2 women there everyday, late 50s, ankle warmers, loads of make-up stinking of perfume, natter way the whole time, never get up a sweat or anywhere bnear it but manage to keep going on the cross trainer for 30 mins+

NomDePlume · 23/03/2005 19:41

Peter Kay is great, funny, observational and real. Love him.

TBH, I doubt this will bother him. All comedians face critism in their careers, even the popular ones. It comes with the territory.
