Yes DH is in India and was meant to go to Mumbai today, has changed flight home.

Alexa808 · 27/11/2008 11:08

Al Quaeda, isn't it. Again.
It's horrible. Really numb just watching pictures of people being carried out.

Just how can they say it's in the name of Jihad? The Muslim faith forbids killings. This is slaughter.

southeastastra · 27/11/2008 11:13

awful, on the news they were interviewing a bloke who was stuck in one of the hotels. he'd boarded up the door with furniture! hope he gets out.

AnneOfAvonlea · 27/11/2008 12:54

This whole event is horrific

poppy34 · 27/11/2008 13:34

dreadful - and still ongoing. Apparently at least 1 british dead and a few serously injured (although imo anyone dead is sad - nationality not so relevant).my dad meant to be going on cricket tour to see the test there in a couple of weeks -not sure if its quite the start to his dream holiday (if he goes)

Eddas · 27/11/2008 17:33

My sister is in India atm, was very worried as I didn't know where she was. Luckily for us a quick text confirmed she is no where near, but it's all just very sad and horrific I cannot understand it all.

southeastastra · 27/11/2008 19:08

omg this is awful wonder if it's the bloke i heard being interviewed!

donnie · 28/11/2008 14:22

I have just seen on the BBC website that the Mumbai police have stormed the Jewish centre being held by terrorists and that at least 5 bodies have been found. This whole situation is just terrible.

BigGitDad · 28/11/2008 22:18

What I find strange is that something like this has happened and yet hardly anybody seems to have discussed it on MN.

beeny · 28/11/2008 22:22

What are your views BGD

TheSquodgit · 28/11/2008 22:30

The BBC reported that the Indian Special Forces had blown a hole in the wall of the Jewish Centre killing 2 militants and 5 hostages...inc the American rabbi and his wife.

It made me cry when they showed their orphaned boy with his grandad. The little boy will be 2 tomorrow just like my DS. Is awful to think he will never see his mummy and daddy again.

What an awful mess it is.

bobthebuddha · 28/11/2008 22:36

hmm, it was reported elswhere that the gunmen shot the rabbi, his wife and other hostages before retreating upstairs and being killed in turn. And the press is now putting it about that a few of the terrorists were British-born. It's all so confused at the moment - I suppose once facts rather than rumour emerge over the next few days there'll be more discussion on here. It's wretched.

BigGitDad · 28/11/2008 23:25

Beeny, it's difficult to know what to think. Worst case scenario, Islamic militants, HIndu Militants or what? I find it strange that Iran's president condems the slaughter of innocent people when they are not exactly whiter than white.
The whole thing is a mess and I wonder if this is setting a preceedent for terrorism world wide and where will it stop?
I say it is strange in my original post beause very little has been said on here at least in sympathy for those who have died.

saadia · 28/11/2008 23:32

What I find strange is that they were targetting US and UK citizens and yet according to some (unconfirmed I think) reports, some of the terrorists were themselves British passport-holders.

It is just appalling to think that people could have been brainwashed into doing this.

BigGitDad · 28/11/2008 23:34

My point I guess is what were they looking to achieve? The slaughter of so many innocent Indian people? Where does that come into it?

Nappiesgalore · 28/11/2008 23:39

the thing about fighting for a 'cause' is that the idealists, the ones conned/brainwashed into thinking they are doing the 'right' or 'only' thing possible... are the great minority. there are cold blooded evil bastard murderers behind this.

beeny · 29/11/2008 08:28

BGD I am a muslim and am disgusted about whats happened also worried if people turn out to be british muslims.I think British society is very tolerant but wonder when tolerance will run out?

EbeneezerSlouch · 29/11/2008 08:40

Desperate, this. And frightening. Do you think they are aiming to provoke the worst reaction from India/Pakistan? (i.e. stir things up so they eventually nuke each other?) Jeez, I hope sense and decency prevail.

And in the meantime my heart goes out to all those who have suffered in/as a result of this. Horrible.

beeny · 29/11/2008 08:44

I think they want a war between india and pakistan.I have been watching Indian news.

southeastastra · 29/11/2008 11:04

the eyewitness stories are making me feel sick. this is horrific
