OMG - amongst the good things (stamp duty increased, inhertiance tax threshold increased, cigarettes tax increased - not 'good' for me persay but might make me quit sooner).

4p a bottle more tax on wine - how will I cope

My mum and dad are sorted anyway! (aged 80 & 83)

when do they hit us with tax to pay for it all?

JoolsToo · 16/03/2005 15:15

my mum got 25p increase on her pension last year - she was so excited she still hasn't decided what to spend it on!

Am I right in thinking there's nothing in the budget related to childcare?

SecondhandRose · 16/03/2005 15:37

£63 per week child benefit can't be right surely?

flamesparrow · 16/03/2005 16:06

Please let the £63 a week be right....

zubb · 16/03/2005 16:12

think the £63 a week could be the maximum you can claim as the childcare bit of the working tax credit - not 100% sure though.

Snugs · 16/03/2005 16:13

Think the BBC have boobed on that one. Only other reference I can find to £63 refers to the Child Tax Credit minimum amounts (ie 13% increase over next three years - minimum payout will be £63 per month)

Not Child Benefit - at £16.50 per week that is already more than £63 per month.

flamesparrow · 16/03/2005 16:13

Hmmm, says child benefit... I think I will do a bit more googling...

Snugs · 16/03/2005 16:16

From the Chancellor's speech :

"So today I can now announce that payments for children under the child tax credit will rise each year in line with earnings and over the coming three years by a total of 13 per cent.

Including child benefit, rising in this period from the £28 a week we inherited to a maximum of £63 a week for the first child and £111 a week for two children."

flamesparrow · 16/03/2005 16:17

Right.. this makes more sense!!! itv news

flamesparrow · 16/03/2005 16:18

Sorry snugs - crossed posts!!!

Freckle · 16/03/2005 16:23

So is child benefit not going up at all then? The £63 pounds of child tax credit includes child benefit, but it doesn't say how much.

flamesparrow · 16/03/2005 16:25

God knows - I got confused yesterday because the CTF account information I was reading said that Child Benefit was £72 a month... mine is £66 am I being diddled????

Freckle · 16/03/2005 16:28

Child benefit is currently £16.50 for the first child, which is £71.50 per month, so I would say you're being diddled if you get less than this. £66 is for 4 weeks, not technically a calendar month. To get the monthly figure, you need to multiply the weekly sum by 52 and divide by 12.

pinotgrigio · 16/03/2005 16:40

Increase in wine tax - nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Form an orderly queue behind me for the campervan day trip to Tescos Calais.

Gwenick · 16/03/2005 16:41

errr pinot - behind ME I think I was first to draw it to the attention of you all

OP posts:
flamesparrow · 16/03/2005 17:09

I'm probably just being paid 4 weekly... ignore me...

pinotgrigio · 16/03/2005 19:50

It's a fair cop.

Amendment: Form an orderly queue behind Gwenick and Pinot for the campervan day trip to Tescos Calais.

As trip leader Gwenick gets to hold the Ferry tickets.
