After last week's debate on these pages about JR/RB, just wondered what everyone had to make of Jeremy Clarkson's joke on Top Gear. Here is a link if anyone is unaware of the story -

entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/tv_and_radio/article5079350.ece

Its up to 500 complaints now apparently.

OK, he suffers from every -ism including sexism. I will concede that.

I don't get the joke -where exactly in that clip is the dig about prostitutes? Was it because he said "murder across to lane 2" or something? Hardly telling someone they might die because you have had sex with their granddaughter is it?

I thought JC admitted though he didnt like environmentalists because he iked having his job too much? I can kinda see that from his perspective.....

he doesn't say murder into lane 2, he says a murder a prostitute.

Still don't get it- what are we supposed to do, very everything we laugh at? Do we need to get our TV screened for us with a comlete list of what counts as mysogeny etc? I'm afraid if nobody is personally targeted by a joke, then if its funny I laugh. And um- yes well thats as serious and deep as I get.

LOL

18069 complaints now, MP for Ipswich on R4 calling for JC to be sacked (PM, now)
mass murder not a topic for comedy, he says
his constituents whose family members were murdered would be offended, he feels confident as they suffered at hands of press at the time.
MP says 'it's just JC' not a good excuse.

poppy34 · 06/11/2008 19:21

jc being offensive? - as other posters have put it is quite normal for him to have a go.

what gets me a bit about this kind of local mp is htat they are quick enough to get on to the press moaning about this kind of thing but how often do you hear them talking abotu other issues that their constituents have (eg health, economy).. I may be being unfair to this mp but htere has been quite a few mps who have been quick to have their moment in the sun say on the bbc saga lately

How many madlentileater ?

It would appear that staying in and being offended is the new going out .
