Why is Katherine Jenkins going on about taking drugs?

At the risk of giving her further oxygen of publicity...

So apparently all this cocaine and ecstasy that she took was a "mistake" in her teenage years which she is now ashamed of and we all make such "mistakes". Rrrrrright.

If it was such a mistake then - just a thought - why did she ever open her big gob about it? It's not like she is a politician who was being grilled and had to offer an opinion on the matter.

Gosh, it couldn't possibly be a misguided attempt to sound "cool" while simultaneously occupying the moral high ground about those nasty drugs, could it? No, that would be unfair. That would imply that she is trying to court a trendy young audience and has an new record deal, or something. And that would be unbearably cynical.

And also slebs making drugs look like a route to fame, fortune and glamour.

So, given that one has indulged in earlier life, what is the correct course of action when a tabloid is planning to "out" your drug use? Saying "yes, I did, but it was a mistake that I regret" is apparently not acceptable; I assume you wouldn't approve of "yes I did, and I don't regret it" either. Is going with tabloid headlines along the lines of "DRUGS HELL OF [INSERT SHOWBIZ CLICHE HERE]" incorporating lots of quotes from bitter ex-boyfriends the only proper course of action?

In the classic words of the Irishman "I wouldn't start from there..."

Ah, so your thread title should read "Why did Katherine Jenkins take drugs in the first place?"?

Mhamai · 04/11/2008 00:28

What is seudo intellectualism exactly? Sounds like a mental martial art. I was only thinking about the old joke in which an Irishman is asked the way.

I read the original article, and after listing her doings with cocaine and pills, it reads " and even ate canabis cakes.." as if this was some clinching prove of her self abuse and decadence.....she is already a massive star without such 'revalations' - she doesn't need this to sell albums, and the younger crowd prob. have nooo idea who she is in any event.

Giving the benefit of the doubt? Besides, she is so incredibly pretty....

Well I like Catherine Jenkins, and I love her voice. I heard an interview with her and thought she was witty and wise, talented and fun.

She does come from a little town in Wales, so I guess she could be all innocent from the hills to the big city as she claims.

Anyway why the bru-ha-ha here? Are we sleb'ed out and just a little cynical perhaps?
She made a mistake in her Yoof, and wanted to set the record straight.

I still think she has a lovely voice, and sounds very genuine as a person. I don't think she's a 'sleb' with no talent, just manipulating the press for self promotion.
I think she's a superbly talented hardworking artist, and her voice has a lively and mature quality.

I like Classical music, can you guess and (mis)spent a good deal of my yoof in concert halls!!

just wondering what everyone who's giving out about her thinks of the new american presidents almost identical revelations about his recreational drug use when he was younger.
got in with a bit of a bad crowd, tried hash and cocaine, realised it wasn't for him and that he was ambitious, never touched them again. and this was when he was a fairly nothing politician so it could be argued that he was doing it just for the oxygen of publicity.do you see him as glamourising and normalising cocaine use? or do you accept that many people experiment with drugs in their youth?
