Hardly surprising. My son did not die in utero as a result of me having a glass once a week. He is a bright and happy six year old and shows no signs of fetal alcohol syndrome. Obviously getting stupidly drunk is a bad idea if you are pregnant.

In fact I think that doctors should advise pregnant woment to eat whatever they fancy, provided its in date and the diet is balanced.

Of course this being MN someone will probably come along and say 'Oh I know all about this study, the author is a well-known alcoholic and he is funded by the brewing industry, and besides, they only used a sample of 3.'

Wait for the new study next month that will blow these findings out of the water...

The article seems very vague about how the research was conducted and just how the link between drinking and 'normality' was obtained?

Somehow asking any mother of a toddler what she thinks of her child's behaviour after a good glass of wine is bound to be positive..

Anything in moderation can't be bad for you - including having a tipple when pregnant ...

Kathyis6incheshigh · 31/10/2008 17:36

LOLOL - yes, if they asked the mothers after a drink that would be a flaw in the methodology, wouldn't it?

can't make up their bleeedin' minds. I cant see the hardship in going without alcohol for 9 months 'just in case' myself.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 31/10/2008 17:39

Oh, I can

Though I agree if you were certain it did make a difference it would be more than a bit daft not to make the effort.

If there was even a miniscule doubt why risk it? Its your baby ffs.

Reallytired · 31/10/2008 18:21

If you look at the list of banned foods during pregnancy its as long as your arm.

In life there is always a balance of risk.
