hell, i think i might fill out the application...

SongbirdScreamsInTheDeadOfNite · 27/10/2008 15:56

Haha, not 10 minutes ago, he said 'I'll have to start training for next year now', and he's worried that all the publicity will mean that even more people will apply next year. That's something else actually, each applicant (or pair, they have to run in pairs, for added safety!) has to state on the application form what races they've done, what experience they have and they will reject people if they can't prove they're experienced enough. It's so well organised it's scary - must be a nightmare!

Romy7 · 27/10/2008 16:14

does he need a partner?
seriously, they are going to have their hands full - it will be a total nightmare as it will be full of all the numpties who have nicked log books off t'internet...

Romy7 · 27/10/2008 16:17

oooo, haven't done a hill race since before kids
still, got a year to go...

SongbirdScreamsInTheDeadOfNite · 27/10/2008 18:09

I'm an armchair fellrunner! Thoroughly support my dh while sitting firmly on my arse!

mum2seb · 27/10/2008 19:33

My dh was one of the runners at the weekend - he was a bit put out that they ended the race after the first day. He felt fine!! He and his 3 brothers were racing as 2 pairs (for charity, by the way!). They've done this kind of thing since they've been able to walk! I had his Mum here for the weekend, laughing at the TV, and telling me they'd be fine! Which I knew anyway, to be honest. The OMM don't LET inexperienced people do this race!! I can't believe what a media circus this has turned into! We really do live in a Health and Safety mad world! What's wrong with being a grown up and taking calculated risks?!!! My dh will be gutted if this does something to the organisation of the OMM! Songbird, my dh is talking about next year, too! Bless him!

column by Mick Hume in the TImes today about this - here

SongbirdScreamsInTheDeadOfNite · 28/10/2008 14:13

A guy from the Up & Running shop was on the OMM forum saying that if people are up for it they're going to get the (£18!!!) souvenir t-shirts over-printed with 'Unaccounted for' or 'You had to be there' or some such. Could be quite amusing! That Mick Hume article is totally on the money.

Another one here in the Telegraph (scroll down past Jonathan Ross).
