here

Not so much that it won't do the trick, but that he's so far been woefully incompetent when it comes to helping Joe & Josephina Bloggs, but now that the banks are in trouble it's a different story?

Ohhhh, I think I'm probably rehashing an old thread from a couple of weeks ago. Age is clearly wearing my brain down to nowt.

One positive result from all of this that I would like to see would be the scrapping of the non-dom tax dodge.

For years Blair and Brown trotted out the argument that they just had to make London effectively a tax haven to attract the world's financial institutions. Well thanks very much, boys. Look where that got us. Using tax revenue to clean up a catastrophe created by people who never paid a penny of tax themselves - that must be the famous British sense of irony at work.

If you want a real laugh ninedragons just read thru GBs Mansion House Speech for June 2007. Personally am trying to achieve buddhist like calm at prospect of potentially losing money from house. All this stuff was on the cards a while ago. We sold up and moved to where better work and other things were - not because of making a fast buck but because things looked grim in light of economic info 1.5 yrs ago. Don't feel smug at all - just horrified at financial armageddon type stuff with grown-ups in suits seeming to not know what to do (or do they ). Think must try to get things into historical perspective - it's not the potato famine or battle of britain is it? (yet)
