I thought Palin a bit thick really, the other guy, Biden, was really impressive

Just me then! Biden seemed sincere, well informed, intellegent and a really nice guy

Palin was a big mistake wasnt she? Ok until she opened her mouth and started talking and showed us how dim she is!

policywonk · 04/10/2008 13:19

I watched the first 20 mins or so, but it didn't look as though anything significant was going to happen and I got irritated by Palin's fringe.

I don't think Biden is terribly impressive either, mind.

Lauriefairycake · 04/10/2008 13:23

you are not sad, my dh recorded it and has been hrrumphing all day that he hasn't had a chance to watch it yet.

AuraofDora · 04/10/2008 13:30

scary sarah.. she seems to believe all that religum stuff too, her folksy style hockey moms and six pack joes gives me physical shudders too..
and her interview on cbs (i think) was a real hoot until you remind yourself she is a whisper or two away from the most powerful job in the world ...she is very dim

didnt watch the debate but enjoy jon stewart on the daily show..he tends to summarise it nicely this, the long slow batan march to the white house ..

anyone watch Recount last night? we taped it catching it later..

Oh FGS! Yes, there are some male politicians who are very dim too. And useless at their job.

Why is it sexist to point out that Palin is too?? How patronising to assume that I'm being sexist to call her dim. I'm not. I'm observing what I see.

expatinscotland · 04/10/2008 13:36

I honestly and truly cannot bear to watch Palin on air.

I just can't.

She's scary enough as it is, but running for VP? Chilling. Scarier than The Ring (the Japanese version) and all Stephen King novels put together.

Palin is a Bible-thumping freak. I wouldn't care if she were man, woman, eunuch or alien, I get fed up to the back teeth of that sort of hypocritcal religious bigotry used to shove policies down my throat and if she were the new Messiah herself I wouldn't vote for her for spouting off all that twaddle, not to mention her view of the environment.

Just because a person doesn't agree with her or doesn't vote that ticket doesn't make them a sexist.

FGS.

findtheriver · 04/10/2008 13:40

The evidence was what came out of her mouth Nuff said.

Honestly, how did sexism come into this? She is awful, and it's a scary thought that she is running for VP. I would say the same if it were a man saying what she says.

expatinscotland · 04/10/2008 13:40

Alaska.

Say no more.

expatinscotland · 04/10/2008 13:41

'Honestly, how did sexism come into this? She is awful, and it's a scary thought that she is running for VP. I would say the same if it were a man saying what she says.'

Exactly, find!

My ballot's been cast .

AuraofDora · 04/10/2008 13:44

dittany
she stated that girls pregnant due to being raped or incest would be 'counseled'!
they would not be allowed any choice..
she is scary

she stated that due to alaska being geographically close to russia she has experience of foreign policy..
she is VERY scary and very dim

it is nothing to do with her being female ffs

grow some ears and listen to what she says
watch that cbs interview..she can make statements but not answer supplementry questions

they both claimed to have won the debate (biden and palin) iirc..

Well, I think she's dim, too. And I don't see where that has to do with being sexist. I find plenty of men dim, too.

The choice is Obama/Biden or McCain/Palin.

Like it or not, that's how it stands. IF you are an American citizen who is eligible to vote, those are the choices.

Do any of them ever stand for the will of the people? My MP and Brown certainly haven't stood for mine or a lot of people around here. But that's how politics works a lot of the time, it's the lesser of two evils.

From polar bears fleeing the melting ice?

policywonk · 04/10/2008 14:22

I watched Recount. It was OK, but you kind of knew the ending...

findtheriver · 04/10/2008 14:37

Oh FGS dittany.

You are trying to make this into a sexist issue completely artificially. Why is it sexist to say that she is stupid? She has demonstrated appalling knowledge and understanding (not to mention scary ideas).
So you don't rate Obahma? Fine. No one is saying 'God how sexist'!

You talk about hatred of women, but actually YOUR attitude is extremely patronising. You accuse any of us who give a view on Palin of being sexist. Can you not actually see that even as mere women, other MNers are entitled to a viewpoint?

wonderstuff · 04/10/2008 14:53

Well I watched the last 40mins or so of the debate and I thought that Biden was a much better speaker, he answered every question, whereas Palin changed the subject frequently and failed completely to answer a couple of questions. I think she looked dim not because she is female, but because energy policy seemed to be the only thing she knew anything about and because she thought that climate change wasn't man made! When they asked about gay rights she didn't seem sure what she thought. I also think that living near another country isn't really the same as having foreign policy experience. At least Obama has been abroad..

wonderstuff · 04/10/2008 14:55

Does anyone know what happened to Biden's wife? He got a bit chocked up saying he was a single dad

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 04/10/2008 14:57

his first wife and baby daughter were killed in a car accident, wonder.

his two sons were badly injured, but survived and made a full recovery.

wonderstuff · 04/10/2008 15:03

Gosh how awful, no wonder he was chocked
