Here.
Where do they draw the line?

I don;'t think there's any way this could have been done without proper consent. The importance of proper consent is surely understood these days?

FrannyandZooey · 05/08/2008 20:22

do you think all nudity is sexual, then? do you think all sexual images are pornographic? is that what this is about?

luckylady74 · 05/08/2008 20:22

frogs - do you know any artist's children? My friend's mum is a photographer and my friend was posing for her and others in that artistic community from an early age - and yes some of it was naked and no that wasn't the point - which it may be in these photos. I have known my friend since I was a teenager and can remember thinking I'd rather die than do that, but I admired her relaxed attitude.

cocolepew · 05/08/2008 20:23

I can say that because that's what I think.
You think he's 'playing with ambiguity...etc..'. I think different. Nothing will covince me that it's art.

Franny, I'll explain it bette; I don't believe that a 12 yr old is canny enough to look at that exhibition/photographer and see what an adult sees.

I can't believe that anybody would wave off their 12 yr old and say, "you go for it honey!".

But there are some strange parents out there. I am constantly being surprised.

umberella · 05/08/2008 20:24

They clearly are ambiguous -otherwise why would we be discussing them at all?

They are doing what all good art does and making us think, question and debate!

morningpaper · 05/08/2008 20:25

blimey I think this is wrong (although I didn't see any pics there?)

The 12 and 13 year olds I know seem to have enormous breasts and are 100X more sexy than I will ever be

There is a huge difference between a 6 year old and a 12 year old

There is virtually no difference between a naked, breasted 12 year old and a glamour model in Nuts

FrannyandZooey · 05/08/2008 20:26

"I don't believe that a 12 yr old is canny enough to look at that exhibition/photographer and see what an adult sees."

but we are not all seeing the same thing, are we?

Luckylady, you mention an artists' community... well, even that is different from a hugely public and controversial exhibition. The artist KNOWS he is pushing back the boundaries. And he KNOWS that it's fashionable to sip martinis and say "wonderful photography, hummm hummm".

He's laughing all the way to the bank.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 05/08/2008 20:26

Why are you so desperate to condemn him and assume the worst of him?

umberella · 05/08/2008 20:27

There are BOYS in them too Dittany!!!!!

You are really jumping to conclusions.

Franny, hand on heart, would you want your naked 12 yr old's photograph enlarged x 10 and hanging for all to see in a public and controversial exhibition? HONESTLY?

Ok for other people's children?

cocolepew · 05/08/2008 20:28

The parents who gave consent could be the same sort of parents who go to these exhibtions, or who deperately need money there is a whole raft of reasons. They might just be shite parents.

luckylady74 · 05/08/2008 20:30

My friend's photos were in public exhibitions-not famous or popular but public - I have one of her naked back -it's lovely!

umberella · 05/08/2008 20:30

Daily Mail to the max on this thread! Lol!!!

morningpaper · 05/08/2008 20:31

A 12/13 year old is canny enough to know that removing her clothes will get her a job

But not canny enough to know the implications of that

It's hard enough for an 18 year old to make that decision (to be photographed naked) - a 12 year old shouldn't be asked to

FrannyandZooey · 05/08/2008 20:32

but I wouldn't actually want MY photo taken like that, Cuckoo, or dp's
it would make me feel too weird about our privacy and people we don't know looking at them and so on
that's just my own personal comfort zone though and fairly irrelevant
it doesn't mean that all naked photography is wrong, or that I don't personally like looking at photographs of naked people if I think they are beautiful or interesting

VeniVidiVickiQV · 05/08/2008 20:32

this is more art with naked children

cocolepew · 05/08/2008 20:33

Why is it Daily Mail to the max. Because anyone that doesn't agree that it's art must be a close minded prude?

morningpaper · 05/08/2008 20:34

a 12/13 year old is not the same as a young child

a 12/13 year old is very much more a sexually developed person and the implications of being naked for art/commercial gain is very different

umberella · 05/08/2008 20:34

...but that's different VVV...it's sooo...PAINTERLY. Ooh the skill, the talent.

Wot you got to say to that dittany!!!!

morningpaper · 05/08/2008 20:35

and how is a man whose gut reaction is sexual arousal at a 12/13 year old any different to a man whose gut reaction is sexual arousal to a model in a CK ad?
