If you have not heard of this case, the petition gives details of poor Tiffany's sad story.

You'd be better off lobbying your MP and writing to the Attorney General to ask that the sentence is increased. IMO petitions are ignored and a waste of time.

dilemma - it's clear to me if someone takes a persons life they should be jailed for life - without any hope of being let out.

What happened to this child has no excuse possible

i'm not signing anything with a 4 in it, for starters. terrible case, just ludicrous to think we know more about it than those present at the trial and naive to think that a petition such as that one will have any effect whatsoever. hate this sort of mindless retribution-seeking anger.

oh, and more money into social services would help kids like tiffany. not longer sentences for abusers.

While I agree with you wholeheartedly that extra resources should be given to child protection agencies in order to prevent abuse and fatalities, I do not understand what you mean by'...kids like Tiffany..'?
Her parents were publicans running their own business.
I also wonder if you would feel the same if it had been a child closely connected to you?
Poor Tiffany is one of many children who have died, and continue to die weekly (see NSPCC website).
You obviously must have no qualms about the judicial system in this country and sentencing powers available to courts.
The Judge who heard the case obviously does not share your confidence - he expressed his suprise that a charge for murder was not brought by the CPS.

In memory of little Tiffany and as a warning to others that this type of horrendous treatment of children will be dealt with severely by courts, the courts must be given discretionary powers to increase sentences as they feel appropriate.
Six years for the 'mother' and two and a half years for the 'stepfather' (as they will only serve half their sentence due to parole) does not seem appropriate to me. Luckily, in the 2-3 weeks that the petition has been running over 1000 members of the public also feel the same.

i thought i was quoting. i see now that i should have gone for the more heart-rending 'kids like poor Tiffany' to be fully accurate. and another at 1000 members of the public. that is rather the trouble with democracy, everyone gets a say, no matter how daft.

oh and OF COURSE i wouldn't feel the same if it was a child close to me. that's why we have a judicial process, precisely so that victims don't start getting into 'an eye for an eye'.
