Read this (sorry its a Daily Mail story!). Feel v sorry for the bride and groom - obviously ruined their wedding ceremony - the vicar that is and not their son!

That's horrible! I'd bet my last rolo that he actually had a problem with the wedding coming after the child, iyswim!

PeachyHidingInTheShed · 06/07/2008 17:34

our last vicar yelled at ds1 mid service for taping, he has asd

but our now vicar is ovely and understands

there's prats wherever you go

roisin · 06/07/2008 17:36

This is outrageous.

I would strongly recommend anyone contemplating getting married in church to go along to a couple of regular services in that church to get a feel for the atmosphere, particularly towards children.

ivykaty44 · 06/07/2008 17:40

I didn't think you could get married in a church that you didn't live in (although I have heared this is going to change) so you would know the vicar and know if he was anti children.

Didn't Jesus through this type of person/priest out of the holy place?

ivykaty44 · 06/07/2008 17:41

Sorry parish that you live in not church.

Glad its just not me who thought vicar was nuts!

Know this is not on the same scale but we had a civil ceremony and had to request a change of registrar as during our pre wedding meeting (about 2 weeks before the wedding) she asked if my friends knew DH's full name as she didn't want anyone laughing in the ceremony (he is Dutch and just has a very long Dutch style name). Also made a comment about him being "foreign" even tho he had lived in UK for ages!

She also said we couldn't have two friends do a short speech re how we met (we wanted the ceremony to be quite personalised etc). Thankfully the replacement registrar was lovely and v relaxed and allowed everything we requested. Always hoped the original registrar didn't spoil other weddings!

Was wondering how long it would be before this story made it to MN.

This vicar announced at a recent funeral DH attended that if anyone had been drinking he would not proceed with the funeral.

OllieWollieWoo · 06/07/2008 17:51

Blimey - bet their Christmas Navity play is a barrel of fun with him in charge!!!! What a misery!

Meant to type Nativity - mis-spelling out of indignation!

He's probably banned it!

Good gracious I went to one funeral and the priest was half cut but the funeral continued. he also did marriages half cut and often got mixed up and confussed. Makes me wonder if the marriages are actually real or not? He was known localy to most and if you were going to his chapel for a marriage or funeral everyone knew you would be late for the food afters.

motherinferior · 06/07/2008 18:12

By contrast, I went to a friend's wedding recently where her nine-month old BELLOWED through it all...and the vicar was absolutely lovely about it, and joked about it too.

BouncingTurtle · 07/07/2008 07:14

As a Church goer I am at this. The vicar needs reminding that Jesus said "Suffer the little children to come unto me". I'm glad his boss is taking the complaint seriously. How awful for the wedding party!

Blandmum · 07/07/2008 07:28

A baby cried in dh's funeral.

I felt it was quite apt as the reading was 'For everything there is a season, a time to be born, a time to die'

Covered by BBC here, expanding the topic to general bridezilla-ism (I love that word - you lot have taught me it). Like the photo and caption too!
